Acronis and iPod/iTunes
As iTunes 10.7 has just come out, the question arises again as to whether it is safe to use for iPod Classic users. All the reported problems with 10.5 and 106 have kept me at 10.4. Recently, I updated my backup approach to Acronis TrueImage 2013, and so this raises two questions:
1. Has anyone used Acronis True Image to back up their iPod as a disk, and then to successfully restore it without the involvement of iTunes?
2. Has anyone used the "Try and Decide" feature of Acronis True Image to test iTunes before committing to a new versions?
The basic thought I'm having is that a way to test 10.7 (and the upcoming 11) is to do a complete full disk backup of the iPod Disk, enable Try and Decide mode, install the latest iTunes, and see if it works. If it does and it can talk to the iPod, great! Commit the change and move forward. If it doesn't revert the change... and if the iPod has been corrupted, restore the iPod disk.
Thoughts on this approach?

I'll note that I do have a full system backup *and* a full back up of the music drive and the iTunes directory. The concerns are actually the following:
1. There were reports with 10.5 and 10.6 that iTunes sometimes corrupted the iPod, and then required reloading of all the music. Given that a flakey iTunes could make that a headache, it would make more sense to do an Acronis backup of the iPod itself, and if the iPod gets corrupted, let iTunes restore the firmware and then just let Acronis restore the rest (the iPod CLASSIC firmware hasn't been updated in years).
2. iTunes, when it installs, updates a number of drivers and system stuff (including Quicktime). I was thinking that Try and Decide might make restoring from a bad versions of iTunes easier.
I can always just stick with iTunes 10.4, given that I don't go to iTunes sites on the web. Eventually, however, it will stop working with the iTunes store. That's not a problem for music (I use Amazon), but is a problem for podcasts.
