Acronis Answer please to error - Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive
This forum has pages & pages of this fault dating back over 6 or 7 years. I have it with True image 2015 and have searched and read dozens of posts - to no avail.
Could someone at Acronis PLEASE provide a definitive answer to this and then enter it as an FAQ rather than a Forum item. Then we all will have a lot more time to actually use our computers instead of fault finding.
My situation is Win7 Pro 64bit at SP1, Acronis True Image 2015 Build 6613. I created a backup of my C partition and password protect it plus no encryption at the Backup Protection Tab. I also select validate after created.I run the Backup jog whch saves as 061os_w2T-3 (C)_full_b1_s1_v1.tib. Now attempt to mount. Right click on the tib file select True Image then Mount. Prompts for my password which I correctly enter. Now instead of going to a screen saying what drive letter it will be mounted as, it jumps straight to the error message 'Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive'. I click on OK to close and it goes to a Mount Wizard Dialog which says 'No items to display' and I then cancel. I have tried disbling my Anti Virus program and repeat the mount, but still the same error.
For me Mounting used to work with an earlier version of TI home. One current post mentioned buying a support ticket but problem could not be fixed by them. Why does the program keep getting upgraded and features removed , yet existing faults are not fixed????
Thanks Oz

Thanks Grover, I am aware that Windows Explorer works, but as a long time non user of such a poor File Manager, it is of little use to me.
I am wanting to actually Mount the backup as a drive letter, as the menu system of TI2015 provides.
As I said this function used to work perfectly. It still exists in the 2015 interface but doesn't work. Come on Acronis - tell us all how to get it working - or fix it - before we even consider TI2016 or any future updates.
Thanks Oz

Hello,
This is a known issue (ticket TI-43664) that has been already fixed. You can update Acronis True Image to the latest build.
Best regards.

In risposta a Hello, Thi di truwrikodrorow…

I am using the latest build (6613) of TI 2015 Home, and the drive letter assignment doesn't work. I get the list of partitions that are present in my backup, I can assign drive letters - but when it comes to actually *doing* the mount, the TI tells me that it can't assing the drive letter.
Is there any chance to find out the problem? I think it used to work with TI 2015 (but I used an earlier build), but now I am on Creators Update - maybe it has to do with this. Maybe not.
Help is greatly appreciated,
Thorsten

Thorsten, please see the following post from Acronis on this subject where a patch was provided for ATI 2015
ATI 2015 Tib Mounter patch details
I just followed the link to the patch and this looks to be still valid / working.

Thank you Steve for this link!
But as it requires a reinstallation of the software: is there a way to export the settings of my scheduled backups? It shouldn't be difficult to implement this, but I don't find out how it can be done...

Thorsten, the reason for the advice to reinstall ATIH 2015 in the other forum topic was because the user in that thread had installed the 2016 tib mounter patch which needed to be removed before the new 2015 patch could be installed.
I would suggest downloading / installing the 2015 patch and testing this without needing to do a reinstall at this point.
The only option for 2015 and all versions before 2018 is to save a copy of the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder where your backup task configuration is held. You would need to make a note of the task Schedule settings as this is not held in the same place. (With 2018 a new option has been added to allow the export / import of task settings in the GUI).

Wow, thank you Steve for your valuable advices!
I installed the tib mounter, but after this the problem remained. So I uninstalled TrueImage and reinstalled it, installed the mounter afterwards, and then I was able to mount without any problem :-)
Then I copied the scripts from the backup (which I saved before uninstall), and then my backups where back in place, and I was able to add a new incremental update, so it seems that they work :-)
