Acronis boot disc doesn't see any drives! (Dell, ACPI)
I made a boot CD on my regular PC that is protected with Acronis Home 2013. I booted a Dell so I could back up the HDD over the LAN before trying any recovery actions on it (It had a Windows BCD loading error). It boots, but (1) it's really hard to use without a mouse, and (2) it does not see any HDD at all.
I tried changing the BIOS to legacy mode, and it did not make any difference.
I was going to suggest that he buy a copy, but my demo didn't go as expected! This is the latest version of True Image. Why doesn't it like Dell computers?

I suppose Dell might be using GPT since they are using ACPI and Windows 8, even on machines with "small" hard drives. I recall True Image Home 2012 wanted more money to handle GPT drives (my earlier "plus packs" are worthless). What's the story with the current version, if even modest budget PCs are being shipped with GPT formatting?

The 2013 True Image build 6514 was an updated version after the initial release (build 5551) that contained several fixes and enhancements, but introduced an issue with the GPT disks, as well as new mice and keyboard problems (in the Rescue Media and Acronis Startup Rescue/Restore environment).
It is also possible that the hard disk controller in the Dell is not supported in the Rescue Media. To check if this is the case, boot to the Rescue Media, and start a Files/Folders backup to see if the disk is seen. The GPT problem does not seem to affect the Files/folders backup. If the drives are not seen in the files/folders backup, then it may be an issue with disk controller support in the Rescue Media.
Have you opened a support case with Acronis? These is no charge for recovery issues (this would qualify).

Is there a way to download the 5551 boot media to try on that machine?

Yes, and no.
You can proceed two ways.
First you could request a build 5551 Rescue Media ISO from Acronis (preferably with the Secure Boot patch applied - see below)
Second, you could remove True Image 2013 build 6514 from your system, and download build 5551 from your account (under older builds) and install it. After installation, you could create a build 5551 copy of the Rescue Media. Although I have suggested that Acronis make older ISO images avaliable to registered users, you can still not get the ISO's for older builds from your account.
Some notes about 5551:
Build 5551 Rescue Media, Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (ASRM) as well as the Acronis (Linux based) boot loader used for live cloning and restores to live OS partitions do not support Secure Boot. There is a patch for this, after which the rescue media would have to be recreated and the ASRM deactivated and reactivated (if used), OR Secure boot can be turned off in the computers firmware temporarily while working from the unpatched version of the build 5551 bootable media.
The 5551 build of True Image also has issues on some system with COM surrogate errors (in Windows). These is a fix for this as well.
There is an updated scheduler (for both builds).
