Acronis Director 2011 Home + Acronis True Image 2013 Home and Gparted

Thread needs solution

Using Windows 7 Home Premium (UK).
Using 23 partitions of which 9 or NTFS and 14 or EXT 3.

When one uses Gparted to partition a disk or just reformat a partition (or re-label a partition), neither Acronis Director 2011, nor Acronis True Image Home 2013 can read the labels on your partitions.

This is not really a problem when you have only 2 systems on the computer, but it IS a problem when you have several systems on your computer (I have 9 at the moment), because you can not really see which partition you're backing up, nor can you see which partition you are restoring to, which creates a very dangerous situation.

In both Acronis Director 2011 and Acronis True Image Home 2013, partitions created or formatted with Gparted just show up as "Local Volume", so you do not really know which partition is which.

I feel this is a BUG that needs attended to.

What if you assign a recognizable label to every disk (which we strongly recommend)? Does it not then display those labels?

I haven't used Gparted, but try that.

If having issues with volume names, try using the old rules which is
when creating the volumne name, use no more than 11 characters and do not used periods or spaces.

Another tool which is both free (donationware) and easy to work with partitions and partition names is the
Mini Tool Partition Wizard
which is a bootable CD partitioning tools.

I find the tool to be very helpful and it is a standalone bootable utiliity.

Thanks Bert07. My apologies for leading astray. My only association with Linux is when using the TI recovery CD.

I do have to apologize as well.
MiniTool does create Linux partitions; it just can not manage them afterwards (You can not reformat the partitions; you have to delete them and create anew).
