Acronis Home 2011

Thread needs solution

I was forced to upgrade to Acronis Home 2011 after I purchased a new PC with Windows 7. I'm not happy with the new GUI (graphical user interface), but it is what it is. I've had troubles from day one getting the backup file names presented in the Disk and Partition Main page in sync with the actual file stored on my hard dirve.

Ex: I used a file name for my backup and called it "2011-09-04_F" to reflect the date of my backup of my F: drive. However after the backup completed Acronis took it upon itself to physically name the file (behind the scenes) as "My Partitions.tib". So Acronis is displaying "2011-09-04_F" correctly in its GUI, however when I go look behind the scenes the physical file name is totally different ("My Partitions.tib". This issue is not consistent. Sometimes it names the file correctly. Sometimes it does not.

What am I doing wrong? If there is no permanent fix for this can I rename the backend file to get it in sync with the file name presented in the Acronis GUI ? Or will that cause problems when/if I need to do a restore?

PS... I have the most recent version of Home 2011. I updated before the above problem occured.

Thanks

If you edit the name of the task, that doesn't change the name of the tib file.
To change the name of the tib file you have to:
- click on operations, choose edit the backup settings
- click on the destination, choose browse
- double click your way until you have opened the target folder,
- enter the tib file name in the box,
- click OK to go back to the settings window.

My God !!! That is not user-friendly ! Why would anyone change the name of the task knowing that it would not change the name of the underlying file ! Acronis really screwed things up with this upgrade. Bring back the older version when everything was much simpler. After this I may need to consider shopping around for a better BU s/w package.

Thanks. Much appreciated !
