Acronis says 'not backed up yet' but the file exists / Want to do 'Version Chain' now?

Thread needs solution

SUMMARY / Problem
-I'm backing up one 1.5TB external USB drive (G:) to another 1.5TB USB External drive (I:).

I did a full backup of the original drive, about 700GB. It took a day and a half, but was successful:-)

I want now to setup a 'Version Chain' backup using the completed backup "tib" file. In this process I noticed that the Acronis main page header says the G: drive is 'not backed up yet"?

HELP REQUESTED
I would like to know how to set up the 'Version Chain' against the already created full backup on the I: drive.

Thank you, Your help is very much appreciated - IM

PS: Tried to attach a small 118K image attachment to this post but get error "An HTTP error 0 occurred. /upload/js?

If you change the back up type from full to version chain, then the next time the back up starts, it will create a new full backup and then manage versions from there on.

The not yet backed up can show whenever there hasn't been a back up created by a schedule. the message should actually say, "'not backed up yet by schedule' since backups made without the scheduler might already exist.

Pat & Scott - Thank you for your help. I've successfully performed the backup I discussed in my post. I've added about 30GB to the drive, and am trying to set up a separate incremental backup now, but Acronis estimates 13 hours? Am I doing something wrong? I would expect the incremental to just back up the added files, and take a much shorter time? - Help appreciated, IM

The time estimates can be awfully wrong at the beginning of the process, especially for file backups and validation processes, from my experience. For example, when I start the validation of a 350GB TIB file, the validation time estimates is several thousands of days :-), but it ends up taking a bit less than an hour.
In addition, if you validate your backup everytime you run it, all backup versions (full and subsequent incremental) are (re-)validated. This provides additional assurance (not an absolute guarantee) that your entire backup can be restored. If you have a lot of incrementals that can take a very long time.

The problem is more serious than saying "not backed up yet by schedule". When it says "not backed up" you can't browse the backup and restore single files/folders. "Explore & Recover" is just not an option.

I recently upgraded to TI 2011, build 6597 and all my backups still say "not backed up yet". I do see big files, so tried a test restore. My bootable win7 image restored and booted just fine.

Acronis: It all worked great with TI 2010, broke with 2011. Please try to get image backups to work as in 2010. I really don't want to go back to the 2010 product! I was hoping build 6597 would handle image backups properly (Heck, that's why I bought the program!!!), but I get the not backed up status that doesn't allow me to restore a file/folder.

Attached is a screen shot of the latest build, pretty sick, isn't it?

I just stumbled into a solution! If I "browse for backup" and select one of these "not backed up" images, it get rids of "not backed up" and allows me to "explore & recover".

Acronis: there still is a bug, it should work like 2010 did. Loks like I won't need to downgrade to the 2010 version.

sometimes you have the force the database to recognize the backup you made manually. You do this by choosing to browse for backup, navigating to it, and then you can add it to the list. Then ATI will treat it "normally."

Right! NOT...I can add it by browsing to it, close ATI and then open back up and it's back to "not backed up yet". This is ridiculous. Have to always browse to it. ATI use to be a good product. The user interface has gone down hill since Acronis started using the year to identify their product. V10 and v11 are great, but don't work with Windows 7.

Like all the other imaging software I have used, it gets to the point where they try to do too much and screw it up.

NO IT HAS NOT

Begin Quote" Browse for backup by going to Operations -> Open backup location:

This will update the backup status to correct one.

I have been using ATI since v6, like all good things - they come to an end. Am looking for a replacement to ATI

Brian,

You are right. There is a UI issue upon restore.

But look, your backup file is still there, and the backup will continue. So, OK, you have one backup that doesn't show up in ATI's list of versions.
This doesn't compromise your backup coverage.

Personally, I just ignore this issue. I also ignore the other issues like the status banners that are not updating right, etc. All UI issues.

In fact, when I restore, I always use the CD and have to pick manually the backup file I want from there anyway...
