Acronis (Seagate) DiskWizard v.16 Does Not Keep Backup Options or Backup Location
Attn: Acronis OEM Tech Support/Development or TWIMC
My Basic System Specs:
Window 7 Home Premium 64-bit, ADM 6-Core, 16 Gig. DRAM, multiple hard SATA II drives (OS is SSD).
I have been using True Image (TI) since version 9 (2006) and upgraded two times, then v 2011 was so buggy I stopped upgrading and have had to use Seagate DiskWizard (SDW)since then. Which has worked fine for me. Then I got an SSD drive and v.14 would not allow access to it, but the latest v.16* does. (*DiscWizardSetup-16005840.en.exe).
The only problem is that unlike all previous, this latest SDW does not honor or remember the user specific backup location or backup options once one exits the program. It defaults to choosing its own directories and resets all my settings to default (i.e. I don't like or use compression, I need High Priority performance and Validation after backup.) . I've installed/re-installed v.16 more than once. No change.
I fully realize SDW is a free bundle of an older version of TI for the Seagate drives and that it has purposely limited functionality so as to encourage people to by the full TI. Fair enough. However there is no indications such as "this functionality is disabled" for Disk backup options and as stated, up to now it has always kept what I set. Remembering the user defined backup location is a must.
If these changes in functionality are intentional, then I would suggest that Acronis make it clear for users of SDW that that these important aspects and options of this kind of software are actually disabled. If not, the there is one or more bugs in SDW that should be fixed. I could not find any registry key related to either problem areas.
Please clarify why these aspects of the program no longer function -- and/or provide an update or fix. If it is a program problem issue, it seems that your corporate partner Seagate (and any others who use some version of v.16) should have a functional product bundle. When things work, its good for business.
