Acronis Secure Zone Questions

Thread needs solution

I have been a TI user for several years. I am currently using TI 2009. I use it by making weekly backups to an external source (USB Drive or network drive).

I have never used the secure zone or other features outside of backing up to an external source.

The computer I am using is a laptop. My drive has around 100GB of data. I just upgraded to a 500GB drive (Seagate 7200 RPM, v7200.4). I am thinking of using the secure zone in addition to backing up to an external source. I would use the secure zone for daily incremental backups (in case I mess of the OS) and still do the weekly backups to an external source.

What is the advantages to using the secure zone? Can I just make a second partition and do backups to that oppose to using the secure zone?

I have used the restore feature several times by using the boot disk and that always worked fine.

When I restored my drive to the new disk, I use the secure zone manager to make the following partitions:

C Drive: 265.70 GB NTFS
Secure Zone: 200.06 GB FAT32

I did NOT activate Teh startup recovery manager.

If I do not need the secure zone, can I just delete the partion using windows Disk Management under Computer Maangement and then make a new NTFS partition? Or do I need to use TI to delete the Secure Zone and leave as unpartitioned space and then use windows to create a new partion?

thanks,

Mike

Hello Mike,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ | Acronis True Image]]

Yes, you can create a new partition to place the archives to. But you can use Acronis Secure Zone for the security. If your archives are stored to Acronis Secure Zone, you are unable to remove them accidentally by means of Windows Explorer.

Also, Acronis True Image Home can clean up Acronis Secure Zone, please see chapter 3.3 of the User Guide for Acronis True Image Home 2009 available here for more information.

Since you haven't activated Acronis Startup Recovery Manager, you can remove Acronis Secure Zone by Disk Management utility and create a new partition using unallocated space.

Also you can remove it from within the program interface, select Tools -> Manage Acronis Secure Zone in the main menu and then choose Remove Acronis Secure Zone.

Select the partitions to which you want to add the space freed from the zone. If you select several partitions, the space will be distributed proportionally to each partition.

Next, you will see a list of briefly described operations to be performed on partitions (disks). After you click Proceed, Acronis True Image Home will start deleting the zone.

Thank you.

Welcome,
I'd just like to offer some friendly advice (for both of you). ASZ offers value for someone who makes frequent changes to there machine and who needs a reliable way to recover their system without using windows system restore. I would suggest using ASZ on systems which are primarily being used for testing purposes, software evaluation or frequent software installs / uninstalls.

For anyone else, ASZ is a ticking time bomb since you are saving back ups to the same drive you are trying to protect. This is an accident waiting to happen. Please accept this advice as it was intended.

If you want the community to try and assist you with your issues, please provide the build of ATIH you are using, your system specs and OS. The forums are not monitored by customer support. If you want support directly from Acronis, you'll have to open a case with them through the support portal. http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/

Enabling ASR (F11) makes changes to the MBR and the option (prompt) should appear at boot time. If PW protection is employed, you should have to enter it in order to access a previously saved .TIB. We're in the dark until you provide more information about your system and environment.
