Acronis TI 2011 Destroyed a Server 2008 R2 Installation

Thread needs solution

I tried backing up a Server 2008 R2 Installation with TI 2011 and after doing just a disk image (no restore attempted), including both partitions, when I try to boot the Server 2008 R2 it can't find a bootable image and will only boot from CD/DVD. I have tried booting into Recovery mode and using bootrec to repair the boot information with no luck. Why would image creation necessitate writing on the disk you are only supposed to be copying and how do I repair the DESTRUCTION Acronis caused?

You should be able to repair the startup with bootrec.

Which options of bootrec did you try?

Do you find a valid OS installation with bootrec /scanOS
Did you run bootrec /fixMBR, /fixBoot?

When you use diskpart, list disk, list partition, is the right partition marked active?

NB> ATI doesn't support server 2008.

bootrec /fixmbr returns "The operation completed successfully."
bootrec /fixboot returns "Element not found."
bootrec /rebuildbcd finds C:\Windows and then prompts "Add installation to boot list? Yes/No/All:" selecting either Y or A returns "Element not found."

Boot the recovery DVD, launch a command prompt
DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK X, where X is the number corresponding to your system disk
LIST PARTITION
SELECT PARTITION Y, where Y is the number of the partition that should be active (system reserved, or C:\System if no system reserved *on any other disk*
ACTIVE
EXIT

bootrec /scanOS
bootrec /rebuildBCD

Did that fix it?

Did you move your disks around by any chance?

You can edit your BCD records manually, but I am not competent enough for your multiboot environment. EasyBCD should be a solution for you.
