Acronis TI Home 2010 error occured while writing to file

Thread needs solution

I've been trying to do a backup of my photography internal 1T hard drive to a USB external 500G hard drive. The operation keeps failing. I can make the same identical backup on a 750G hard drive of a different brand, still USB plug in. I'm running Windows Vista 32 bit Home addition on an HP Pavilion desktop. Any ideas as to what would cause such an error. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with my external hard drive. Thanks.

Dan

Hello Dan,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ | Acronis True Image]]

To find the exact reason of the encountered issue please provide us with the following information:

1) - Launch the program;
- Tasks and logs, Log;
- Choose the log entry which contains errors and make right-click on it;
- Select Save all option and specify the desired location for the log file to save to;
- Attach the log file to your next post

2) Please download Acronis Report utility available here and run it, create a report and attach to your post.

This would provide us with detailed information on the hard disk partition structure.

Thank you.

I am also getting error messages such as 20:50:36 "Error occurred while writing to file." I am trying to write to an external drive through a firewire cable. My free support ends March 29th and I'm leaving on a short vacation until March 31st. I'm going to do what you suggested in regard to the log file and hopefully you can determine the cause of the problem. I just want it to be documented before my free support period runs out. I'm going to save this post now and run the Acronis report utility now. I will then come back to the forum and attach the file to my posting. I hope that will work. Thanks for your help.
