Acronis TIH 2010 - Won't install, won't uninstall

I tried to install TIH 10 on a Windows XP SP3 box.... single drive, mix of NTFS, FAT, and EXT partitions on it, 500 GB total, Dell Inspiron E1705. Also installed Disk Director 2010.

The install process hung up, but eventually got to the reboot message, which I did. Upon return, some of the start menu icons were missing; the only ones present were "one click backup" and "rescue media." One click did nothing; no response. "Rescue" came up with a message that I was running trialware (!?) and upon activation with the key, told me "not all features are available to you" (!?!?) (I just paid $$ for this thing).

Thinking something got borked in the install, I uninstalled both TIH and DD. DD install and uninstall seems to have worked, but uninstall of TIH is now hung in Windows.

What I'd like to do is clean the disk and registry of all Acronis references, and start again with the install process. Is there a clean path to this? Thanks.
