Acronis True Image 2009 Question

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to make a scheduled 'My Computer' back-up which will just update the original file (which I named 'SystemBackup(1)) or back-up made. At the moment though it keeps making new files/back-ups named 'SystemBackup(1)2', 'SystemBackup(1)3' & so on.

In each of these are 4 more files. Is there a way one file can be created & updated?

Thank you in advance.

You get these separate files because you have an incremental or a differential backup. To have only one backup you have 2 options:
- run a full backup each time, keeping only the last backup; this is the best option in terms of reliability, but it takes longer to make a full backup, and TI will finish the new full backup before deleting the older one, so you need enough space.
- run a differential backup and consolidate the file so that only 1 version of the backup remains; this is the best option in terms of space and speed, but consolidation can be a bit less reliable.
In any case, make sure you validate your archive and open/mount it from time to time from your recovery CD to make sure you can use it for recovery purposes.

PS: I am wondering why you want only one file. The benefit of keeping separate files is that you keep a version history of the backed up files. Even if you don't need to keep a version history, you get the benefit of speed compared with full backups, and reliability with differential backups.
