Acronis True Image 2013 hangs when loading with Windows 8

Thread needs solution

I just bought a new lap top, HP Envy touch screen with windows 8. I install Acronis True Image 2013
When I first installed Acronis it was working fine I was able to make a backup of my hard drive. I installed I tunes and synced my I pad so I wanted to make a new backup and when I try to open Acronis it hangs on loading and never opens I have to close it using the task manager. I have looked for a solution using the search function but didn’t find anything. I tried reinstalling/ repairing and that didn’t help. I don’t want to try uninstalling and re installing because I will lose my license. Does anybody have any suggestions.
Thanks

Garrows,

What build of 2013 are you using?

When you say 'synced', is this True Image Sync or iTunes sync?

Which license are you referring to as far as your concern about uninstalling TI or iTunes?

Try opening TI and then whilst it is hanging open up Windows Task Manager, see how many True Image entries there are (don't include Scheduler, scheduler2 in your counting) if there appear to be more than one referring to the GUI, kill one of them, TI may then open.

Other things to try, in Windows Services.msc, temporarily disable the NSB and Sync agent services, see if TI then starts up.

Disable any iTunes services and see if TI then starts.

Does it make any difference if you try to start from the tiles or from the old style desktop?

You could try disabling startup programs apart from Windows itself and then bring them back on one by one, rebooting in between and seeing if TI starts, when you reenable the problem child TI of course will refuse to start.

Colin,
Thanks .
The build is 6514. The sync I was referring to was an ITunes sync. The license I am concerned about losing is the TI license.
It doesn’t matter if I start TI from the tiles or the old style menu.
I tried disabling the processes you mention but it did not help.
I will try disabling start up programs one by one and let you know what happens.
Thanks for the help

Garrows,

You don't need to worry about the TI licence, so long as you don't change the machine or your login name, the serial will still work. Even if you do change the names or wipe and re-install Windows, you will be able to reactivate TI. It will just mean you will need to remove the old registration from your account and activate the new one. Note, that applies to a single licence version, the Family Pack will require each serial number to be used before you can start transfering them.

Colin,
I have tried everything and cant get TI to load. I think I am just going to wipe everything and reinstall windows. Can you tell me how to remove the old registration from my account? I looked at my account but don't see any where to remove the registration.
Thanks so much for all your help.

Garrows,

When you reinstall True Image the activation mechanism will pop up a box saying 'too many activations', just follow the prompts from here.

Have you tried running the True Image cleaner yet? This will remove all registry entries and hopefully allow a reinstall, this would save you from a complete OS install.

Colin,
I had tried running the True Image cleaner and it didn't help. I did a OS install and everything is working good now. Thanks so much for all your help. I have been using Acronis for several years and this is the first time I have had any issues.
Thanks again
Gary
