Acronis True Image 2013 Hangs up
I am using Acronis 2013 on Wnindow 7.
I noticed that the latest back up of Outlook 2010 failed, so I initaiated a manual back up. Acronis hanged up toward the end and did not complete. I had to cancel the back up after two days. Can anybody offer a solution to the problem?

Thank you Steve for responding:
THIS IS WHAT THE LOG SAID:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<log uuid="" product="True Image" version="16.0" build="6514" >
<event id="1" level="3" module="4" code="17" time="1477177725" message="Cannot find version 1. You may have moved or deleted it. Please click Browse and specify its location, or ignore this message." />
Outlook was not running when I attempted to run the manual back-up nor was it running when the automatic back up was secheduled to run. There is sufficient space on the destination disk. I am doing incremental back up once a week of OUTLOOK.

Moshe, thank you for the log information.
The key message in the log is: message="Cannot find version 1. You may have moved or deleted it. Please click Browse and specify its location, or ignore this message."
If you have manually deleted any of your backup files via Windows Explorer, then this can cause this type of message.
Please perform a Validation for your backup task and take the Ignore option for any files that it flags up as being missing.
The alternative would be to either create a new backup task with a different task name, or to use the option to 'clone setting' which will create a duplicate of your current task with the same name prefixed by (1) - this will keep all your current settings for the task to save having to reconfigure everything again.

Hi Steve
I appreciate your help.
I had to manualy reconfigure my outlook to work through exchange per MS instructions due to their migration to Office 365.
I do not recall any delete. as a matter of fact I still see my .pst file in Acronis directory.
I hava a seperate task to back up the Outlook file, so the rest of the back up is not interrupted. How do i sepecify the corrcet loaction of the .pst file for Acronis to find it? I see the error statement saying Please click Browse and specify its location, or ignore this message." where is the Browse</bold and how to one click on it?
Thanks in advance

Moshe, the message just tells you to click on the Browse button it offers and use this to locate where your outlook .PST file is to be found.
If you are unsure about where the file is located, use the Windows Explorer search box to look for *.pst and look at the results of the search.
The browse button should be shown when the error is encountered when the task is run.

Hi Steve
Thanks again for your follow up.
Unfortunately I did not see the Browse button when the auto - backup first failed. In trying to run True Image manually, the task does not actually terminate. It simply hangs up (I waited 24 hours before terminating it).
I am really at lost what to do next.

Moshe, as I advised earlier:
Please perform a Validation for your backup task and take the Ignore option for any files that it flags up as being missing.

Hi Steve
I am realy not sure what validation means. I do not see any ignore option generated when the task is running but stcuked in the same loaction. No error is generated.
I did create duplicated back up task with a different name. It gets stuck in the about the same place and in the same way as the original back up task did.
What I did notice is after the date where the original error code has been logged, the size of the back up file is in the smae order of magnitute and sometimes bigger than the size of the orginal first full back up file rather than the small size of the increamental back-u[ fils. The size of the back up file of the new task is so far about half of the full original backup file.

Moshe, validation is the means of checking your backup task and verifying that all the backup files that Acronis is expecting to find can be found or else reconciling the Acronis database information to correct any links held for missing files.
You should be able to find the Validation option by clicking on the 'gear cog' icon to the right of the task name in ATIH 2013 which will show a small menu with various options.

Hi Steve
Thanks for your continued follow up.
My understanding is that validation can only be done on the last completed backup task. However, the manual backups of my e-mail never completed. I had to terminate them both after 24 hours. This time I am just letting the task continue beyond that (it si now the third day and it is still going. The back-up file is still growing). I cannot do anything else at this point. I will try to validate the last e-mail backup task after the current one completes (if it will) but I am really not sure what would that tell me?.

Hi Steve
The new task finally completed after 72 hours. I checekd its validity as you have suggested and it is valid. The subsequent backups should be increamentals, hopefully taking much less time. Can I just delete the old task's back-ups? Is it normal for a task to take so long for backing e-mails sized 2.2 GB?
Thanks a lot for your help in thsi matter

Moshe, thanks for the update on progress - glad to hear that the task did complete and could be validated even if it did take a very long time.
It is very difficult to explain why this email backup task should take such a long time - is there anything in the logs that offers any clues? You are welcome to post copies of the logs for the task to the forum so that we can look in more detail. The logs can be found in C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs folder - you can zip the folder if that would be easier.
The other consideration is whether there are any problems with the source disk drive where the Outlook email files are held? You could try running CHKDSK /F against that drive to check for any filesystem errors.

The log for that back up is 2.311 MB in size.

Hi Steve
By the way I am assuming that this is a full back up and that the prevous task's back up mcan be deleted
Thanks again for your help
Moshe

Moshe, yes the log shows that a full backup was created, so you can delete the older backups if you need to do so, but please do a validation for the backup task after doing so.
