Acronis True Image Home 2010: RAID 1 ok? ICH7r SATA RAID controller ok?

Thread needs solution

I am in the midst of upgrading my computer Vista to Windows 7. As a part of that upgrade, I am now using a RAID 1 (Mirroring) array, connected to my motherboard's ICH7r SATA RAID Controller.   My drive is divided into two primary partitions and an extended partition containing three logical partitions.   I have left 100GB of unallocated disk space at the end of the drive which I would like to use for a True Image SecureZone Partition.   (I additionally plan to use True Image to create backups of my user data and Outlook 2007 email onto an external drive connected by eSATA on a Jmicron JMB363 Controller. Before I do so, however, I need to confirm a few points with your company.

1>   Is Acronis True Image Home 2010 able to utilize the ICH7r RAID-1 (Mirroring) Array? (I realize that it is able to do so from within Windows, as my windows drivers are loaded. My question is in regards to the stand-alone boot-time software which runs under your Linux shell.)

2>   Is Acronis True Image Home 2010 capable of creating a SecureZone partition on such a RAID array? (I have read some horror stories about people who ended up corrupting their MBR's trying to do so with earlier editions of Acronis True Image.)

3>   If so, can this SecureZone be safely activated for booting using the F11 key at BIOS post? (This is doubly questionable to me, considering both the RAID array and the use of Windows 7.)

4>   If the SecureZone cannot be used, will the Linux based rescue media (bootable CD) be usable with the RAID-1 array on the ICH7r? How about the PE version, using my existent Windows RAID drivers?

5>   Can Acronis True Image Home 2010 be used to restore the System (Boot & OS) partitions of Windows 7?  Will the fact that my OS is sitting on a RAID-1 (Mirroring) Array complicate that?

6>    Are there any other comments or points you think I should be aware of? Pertinent details of my system are:

Motherboard: ASUS P5W DH Deluxe

RAID Controller: Intel ICH7r

eSATA Controller: J-Micron JMB 363

RAID Array Drives: 2 x Seagate 7200.12 1TB

eSata drive: 1 x Seagate 7200.12 1TB in an IcyDock enclosure

Processor: Intel Core-2 Duo E6600

Memory: Corsair 4GB DDR-2 800

Operating System: Windows 7 PROFESSIONAL

Thank you very much in advance! I hope Acronis technical staff also will look at this forum.

Backup, Bactkup, Backup

My system is using a ICH8R / ICH9R Intel RAID Controller on the mother board. I was a user of True Image 2009 with a RAID 1 setup with no issues. I downloaded the trial version of True Image 2010 and when I booted from the Recovery CD it corrupted by MBR. Fortunately I had a full backup using True Image 2009 and was able to restore. I was able to recreate the problem and tried to work with Acronis Life Chat to resolve the problem, but they would never admit it was an issue and had no corrective action. So my only advice is make sure you have a good backup before you boot from the Recovery Disk. I have since given up on True Image and moved on to a competitors product.

I tried to backup my freshly installed Windows 7 Ultimate system partition, which runs on an Intel ICH8R / ICH9R softraid, with Acronis True Image 2010, but the backup process always stopps after about 25 percent is finished. Only a hard reset of the computer helps.
With Acronis True Image 2009 the backup works perfectly, but the SecureZone corrupts the MBR. The 2009 rescue media had no problems with the raid system.

Installed TI 2010 Home last nite on computer with Raid mirrored boot drive. TI completely destroyed my ability to start the computer. Apparently boot record is gone. I would highly recommend against purchasing or using this product.

You'd think Acronis would be willing to post the current problems with their products on the top of the fourm to prevent issues for new and current users. I guess that would mean they'd have to admit there are problems. If only Jack would have seen these fourms before he did the fatal Recovery Cd Boot!

Jack,

I received the link down below from Acronis. It's the new version of the Recovery CD. Personally I don't have any interested in continuing to be a beta tester for a product that is designed for recovery, but causes disk / data failure. Good Luck!

A new build for Acronis True Image Home 2010 Bootable Media has recently been released. Please click on the link provided below to download the latest ISO image:

Well. I was so unfortunate to buy TI 2010. I have encountered the same problem (Hang up during the first backup and to discover afterwards that my raid configuration had been damaged).

I regret the lack of responsivenes from Acronis Support. After reading all the user experiences on this forum I have to conclude that this is a piece of software which should never have been released in this condition.

The only way Acronis can help me is to refund my money or to deliver a working version asap.

In the meantime I would advise anyone against buying this product.

Dave,
What was the name of your competitors product?
How well is it working for you?
Thanks

Even if Acronis supports your controllers that does not mean the product will work for you. Lots of people on this forum have supported hardware and complain that the program does not work for them. It works wonderfully for me.

You should download the trial version and test it for yourself. That is the only way you will be sure that the product works for you. You get 2 weeks to use it.
