Acronis True Image Home 2011 - Information Clone disk

Thread needs solution

I cloned the drive (C) on an external hard disk then i made some backup. For curiosity i tried to make a second cloning of the unit (C) always on the same external hard disk and the program Acronis tells me that the second disk contains data and therefore you must delete the content of disk. In this way i cannot make a latter cloning and not overwrite the previous one. In essence i should redo in sequence the cloning and the different backup. Someone i can give a council? Thanks

Thanks

Hello,

There is a big difference between cloning and backup.

A disk and partition backup is what you need if you want to be able to restore your computer. This backup needs to contain all partitions in your disk. Many disks have hidden partitions you can see in disk management.
The result of a disk and partition backup is a *file* with the TIB extension. You can then add other backups to the same backup disk.

If you do a clone, you don't get a *file* you get a *disk*. So, if you do another clone, your backup disk will be completely erased first, and then rebuilt by the cloning process.

Yes, i know perfectly. Can i create 2 partitions (2 Units) on my disk 1 Terrabytes and use one for the clone (so i can easily rebuild it even if i delete the previous) and the other for the various backup? In this way the various backup are not erased.
Hello and thanks

No, if you clone, you cannot clone to a partition. A clone is always a copy of an entire disk to an entire disk.
