Acronis - TrueImage Home 2012 with PP (Oh Dear)
Trying to upgrade from 2011 to Home 2012 and what a carry on. First it crashes my machine and locks it solid. Then I get a critical install failure with the option to send a file to Acronis. I do not know if that file actually went because I got another error saying an error occurred sending the file. I kept a screenshot which I've sent to support and guess what no one from Acronis has bothered to contact me yet. This was sent under a different account name. It gets worse believe me! I then re-boot my computer after checking support/user forums and deleting version 2011 as there's an indication something in 2011 is stopping it installing. And, the C: drive is no longer accessible because the boot sector is missing. A coincidence, I think not....as the PC was working fine until I tried upgrading. Of course I managed to sort this by using the Win 7 repair option, but this isn't good and it’s unforgivable that no one from Acronis has contacted me since my support request. I have asked for a refund as this software clearly has issues and my life is too short to fight software to get it working. I now can't access my online backup set up as 2011 is no longer installed and wonder where I can get the standalone backup software because I won't have time until early next week to restore 2011?
Not a happy bunny and feel quite let down by Acronis.

Hi Scott thanks for your reply. I still got an error about installing and I'm now concerned I won't be able to use the 2011 Online Backup which is accessed via Home 2011. I still haven't had a reply from Acronis and have decided to get a refund as I'm not that happy about the problems so far. If its having these problems what happens when I try to restore from a backup and find there were problems there as well? No, I think I'll stay with 2011 for the time being.
Coincidentally, when I logged in just now there's a message from Acronis about their telephone support.
"We are currently experiencing heavy volumes on Phone Support with wait times up to 15-20 minutes. Please try Phone Support at a later time or you could alternatively contact us using Chat Support by logging into 'My Account' on our website. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding."
I suspect I'm not the only one having problems from the look of it? Of course they could be contacting support to congratulate them on a job well done but I don't think so...somehow.

So Stetti and Scott - Here's what happened to me !! I didn't have an earlier version of ATIH but had used ADD11 Home bootable media with no problems so decided to purchase ATIH 2012 and ended up with the PP also which I installed on my Vista HP Acer machine - Have several projects to try at this point (last Dec) but found a TTAX deal on Amazon so downloaded and installed it - VERY STRANGE WARNINGS but thought well that's Vista so drove on and got TTAX installed with all updates, etc ok - The next day, I went to send an email a found all my accounts were GONE!! -- SOOO, I thought I'll just run System Restore and get everytrhing back - Guess what??? -All my shadow copies were gone!!! At this point I thought it was the Amazon TTAX download so I called and they refunded my money and sent me a boxed copy for the same price. (now that's service) - Got the new CD and installed and guess what!! same result - So I installed it on two other machines with W7 and XP (but without ATIHPP2012) and everything is fine - No email probs and no missing shadow copies etc -
SOO - If I was a betting man i'd say this Acronis (put your word here) is screwing up my system big time - Also, their bootable media doesn't work on internal CD/DVD drives with the Bios set to AHCI - You have to use the WinPE stuff if you have a W7 machine with AHCI - Also couldn't get Universal Restore to install the Drivers even though they are there to be installed - Tried Usb, CD, Network share, you name it it just says it can't find it!!
I guess maybe I'm just to stupid to use this complex new software but guess what ?? I'm NOT ALONE!!! - LOL - Papa

INteresting, I have ttax and ati2012 on the same machine without any probs other than the usual ati2012 probs of orphaned backups or backups not completing. But I've never had it or ttax harm any data files.
If you were running nonstop backup, perhaps that affected the windows backups. I've never used nonstop backup-always disable the service.

Scott - Thanks for the reply -I've never used ATIHPP 2012 installed on my Vista machine, always used Bootable Media or WinPE - The only reason I even installed it was to add the Plus Pack so I could use Universal Restore - Am trying to make my AO 722 netbook a dual boot with XP Home as I have some legacy race car controller software that only runs on XP - so am trying to get the AHCI drivers to install during UR, even off a network share - It shows the location where I put the drivers but says to put them there and retry - but they are already there!! maybe this is a drive letter prob between Linux and Windows so I'm going to put the drivers on all the partitions and see - As to the TTAX issue, as soon as the loader ran to install TTAX my Email accounts were gone as well as the System Restore Shadow Copies - Also the System Services concerning the generation of the Shadow Copies was disabled - BAD NEWS - Had to do a full disk recovery several times while testing both the download version and the boxed copy of TTAX - I am now somewhat afraid to move ATIHPP to my W7 machine (activate, deactivate) - I think I'll wait till I finish my taxes!! - but anyway on the Universal Restore issue, there's a post about it on 28992 (somewhat similar to what is going on with me) - If you know anything about how the files in the driver folder should be arranged, etc it would be a big help - Thanks, Papa

Just a guess, but if you make the directory folder on each drive, then if the PE builder can't find it, you know it's not a drive letter/loactin issue.
When you installed ati2012 did you tell it to integrate with win backup?

Scott - the Vista Home Premium machine (Acer desktop T-180) that I installed ATIH 2012 then added the Plus Pack and updated to the latest build (6154) has no Windows Backup - came only with the Acer Recovery (which they are currently being sued over!!) - both the Bootable Media and the WinPE are the latest build (6154) - so to answer your question, I don't remember being asked anything about integrating to win backup during the ATIH or the PP installs - I can't find any win backup on this machine (I think Acer wants you to use their stuff so doesn't include it in the pre-installed system) - Do you know of anybody that's had 2012 Universal Restore work?? I mean install the HDD controller drivers properly? I've searched the KB and Forum and most reference is to 2010 or 2011 versions which I don't have - Anyway, any help appreciated !! THKS Papa

Papa John,
Regarding the Windows Backup:
Go to Start/Program/Accessories/System Tools
and see if you have a menu option of Backup
Also, do a search in the Windows/system32 folder and see if you have a file
NTBackup.exe
You can right click on this file and drag it onto desktop as a shortcut.

Also check that the windows backup service is enabled :
right click my computer, select manage, selects services, look for Windows backup service and right click to set properties.

Sorry about the delay - They tell you to lay off the salt because it causes high BP (now found NOT to be true) so I had to go to the ER cause my sodium was so low it almost killed me!! So after three days of IV sodium drip, they let me out of jail so I'm back!! Great getting old --
I went thru all my Acronis installation information which included a lot of emails with their support people but I never heard anything about integrating ATIHPP with win backup - Anyway, per GroverH instructions, I found in Start/Program/Accessories/System Tools an entry for Backup Status and Configuration - I attached the info - the search for NTbackup (and advanced search of the C: drive) turned up nothing - Scott, I followed your instructions (right click my computer, select manage, selects services, look for Windows backup service and right click to set properties) and found everything but wasn't sure what properties to set?? I attached the window - hope this helps but I've been working with this since last Nov and I'm about ready to give it up - Thks for all your help and support -- Papa
