Is Acronis working on fixing the terrible log display behaviour?
I have been an Acronis user for many years and I swear this will be my last, no matter what 50% off discounts are thrown at me. Acronis just isn't working on or fixing the annoying bugs for me.
I don't understand why the logging functionality gets worse with each product, instead of fixing and improving. This is an area I thought would get special QA attention, since when you are having trouble and need log to help troubleshoot an issue, having very poor logging is just adding gas to the fire. You get a better idea of how well a product is made for circumstances like that.
Such issues include:
1. Delayed/long loading time for displaying log dates
2. Not showing all the log entry dates on the calendar (experienced this today)
3. The date view for "All" doesn't show the current date unless you click somewhere else
4. Little to no time for the taskbar popup to show issue the following morning after a backup fail
More info:
1. When viewing logs, it can take 5 seconds or more for the log dates to display. If I close logs and go back in, its faster. If it needs time to load logs, make the mouse busy instead of it looking like they are loaded, or hanging the application.
2. I experienced this today for the first time. today is March 5. I go to view logs, and the left calendar only shows up to March 3. March 4 and 5 do not have any icons next to them (implying that no backups were attempted). I then click on March 4, and the green icon now appears. I click on March 5, and the green icon appears. Going forward, I can close the log view and reopen, and March 4 and 5 will be in the calendar.
3. Right click on the backup profile to view the log, and the log dates show March 3 as the top most log date. The scroll bar in the left frame is not able to be adjusted to go higher to show March 5. but you can see March 5 is showing in the calendar. if I click on March 5 date in the left calendar, then it displays March 5. Same for March 4. WHY THE HELL ISN'T TODAY'S DATE THE DEFAULT FOCUS WHEN VIEWING LOG?!!?
4. When I go to my computer in the morning, my monitor is asleep. I move my mouse and the screen needs like 5 seconds to wake up and display stuff. I have only ever seen the Acronis balloon pop-up indicating an issue with the previous night's scheduled backup once (prior to that, I wondered why Acronis never used such basic functionality since I never saw it before). The one time I seen it, it was just at the very end of being displayed and went back into the taskbar. It was not viewed long enough to be read (hence, needing to go to the log to see what the message was, only to not see today's date when viewing log... understand the frustration?!?!).
These are bugs experienced on all three of my PC's running 2014. Most of the same log issues were present in 2013 (and I believe 2012) and instead of being fixed or get better, it just gets worse.
Given that Acronis 2014 just got its bug fix update for 2014, I'm doubting that I'll ever see Acronis fix these bugs given these issues have been present for several years now. It makes me shake my head that someone in your QA department isn't making this a bigger deal and having a developer just fix it already.
