Advice needed on Acronis true Image Home 2011

This version was put on my computer by PC World so I never got to understand how it worked. Having spent some time reading up on it I am better informed but have some queries I hope someone can help with.

Do I need a partition and discback up as well as non stop back up for files or will just one of those do for both.

What is the best sort ob back up. There are several to choose from but storage space is limited to 500 GB at the moment.

Emails wont back up without my windows credentials. what are these. My email account and password does not do it.

When I have done a partition and disc back up it creates 2 of them. I only have 500GB and this is taking up half of that already. Is there a way of only creating one

The manual says there is a check box 'Do not delete the first version  of the back up. I cant see this anywhere

My external drive is shown as fixed in my computer but it is removeable. Acronis needs to know its removeable so how canI show it as such.

Finally I am getting a new computer. Is it necessary to get the latest Acronis True Image or can I carry on happily  with this one.

Hope someone can help

Dave, welcome to these user forums.

Acronis True Image 2011 (ATIH 2011) is now some 6 years old and only supports up to Windows 7 and not beyond. So if your new computer comes with Windows 10 (as is most common now) then ATIH 2011 will not work or install on this OS.

When using ATIH 2011, then you should ensure that you have a full Disk & Partitions backup that includes all the partitions required to recover your Windows OS in the event of having a disk drive failure.

There should be no need to do a Non Stop Backup unless you have data that is changing very often and needs that level of protection.

A full disk & partitions backup will include all your emails as well as everything else on the computer.  There is no separate option for Email backup in later versions of ATIH as Acronis removed this.

Some external disk drives may show as being 'fixed' if you boot your computer with the drive already connected and powered on.  If you connect it or power it on after the computer has booted into Windows, then it should be seen as being 'removable'.

Steve, Thanks very much for the advice, that's great. I suspected I might need the latest version - nothing seems to last very long these days.

I'll do a final disc and partition back up on my old computer and then get the latest Acronis version and start afresh on the new computer.

Regards

Dave
