Advice required: Allow save/restore of primary partition to/from image file ; and boot-time menu restore option
Hi All
I'm looking for a seamless way to allow my primary partition (Windows XP) to be saved to an appropriate image file on a separate area on disk, and then allow a menu boot-time option to restore the primary partition from this saved image file.
This would be similar to what many pc manufacturers do, to allow restoration of base-image in the event of some corruption.
Effectively I need a 100% reliable way to return the system primary partition to an exact saved point in time without any runtime performance overhead (other than the image restoration time). I believe Windows system restore / saved points etc would not achieve this.
Ideally i'm looking for something like VMWARE snapshot functionality.
So for example .. install computer software ... shutdown .. choose some boot.ini menu option to fully save partition to static file.. restart computer.. do some work that trashes something ... restart computer.. choose to restore from saved image... ideally.. allow multiple images to be created / restored for testing various things.
Has anyone achieved such a thing using Acronis software?
cheers
Matt.
