Anything to fear: TIH 2010 (build 7,046)

Thread needs solution

I have been using TIH v9.0 (build 3,677) very successfully since released for basic back-up and restore. I am ready to upgrade and have downloaded the latest, I Think, TIH 2010 (build 7,046) with the 2010 PlusPack (6029) for installation. Is there anything I should fear, consider or do before or after installation? Are there any problems I may encounter as a result of doing the following or restoring to the previous version (or restoring previous files) if I have any problems.

1-I have done a full system backup, separately, of my internal and external hard drives.
2-I plan to do a straight installation and let it over right the existing TIH v9.0 installation.
3-After installation create two (2) Recovery Disk.
4-With the new version TIH 2010, do a full system backup, separately, of my internal and external hard drives.
5-Keep the old backups done with v9.0 for a few weeks just in case there is something needed with that backup.

Any thoughts or suggestions will be helpful.

Hi, one comment, you should have TIH 2010 build 7046 and the 2010 PlusPack build 7046 - you will hit problems if you try to install the 6029 version of the PlusPack i.e. it won't allow you to do so.

You should be able to read your old backups from TIH 9.0 with TIH 2010 but not the other way round - I found this recently when using TIH 11.0 to look at a TIH 2010 backup - 11.0 said the backup was corrupt! So keep copies of your recovery disks for both versions until you have migrated completely to using 2010 and have all the necessary backups in place.

I would recommend uninstalling TI 9 and rebooting before trying to install TI 2010.

Steve,
Thanks for the reply and suggestion. Without your mention I would have failed to download the PlusPack 7046 for installation.

MudCrab,
I have been checking around and have not seen mention of the need to uninstall TI 9 before installing TI 2010. However, I know you are very knowledgeable of all things TI and that your recommendations should be taken seriouly and can eliminate problems. I am just curious, what are the benefits of first deleting TI 9 and what problems might result from just over writing TI 9 with TI 2010? I thank you and appreciate any time you may spend on an explanation

blair.

Absolutely concur that it is wise to uninstall TI9 before installing 2010. Far too many horror stories about problems caused by trying to install a new release overtop an outdated module. The 2010 writes to the registry and is not a removal for the old parts left behind from older versions. It is possible that an install overtop might succeed for a few but running a stop sign is not a good practice.

Thanks to everyone for the info and suggestions offered. I did as suggested by uninstalling v9 and doing a fresh install of 2010 and the Plus Pack just a few minutes ago. As far as I know everything went just fine. Tonight I will do my first full system backup. I have just created 2 rescue disk (one with a report that serves some purpose) and will shortly create an ISO but not sure what it is for or where to keep it for future use.
