Archiv is corrupted

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I'm really going crazy because of my backup being all of the sudden corrupted. I'm not able to mount it, validate it or recover not a single file.

The .tib files have been located on an external HDD, but I've run the chkdsk and all the possible scans on that drive and everything seems OK. The modification time of the .tib files is still the same as after the backup and previously they used to work. I've also tried to copy the .tib files to interna HDD, copying was OK, but after the copying, the files are still reported as corrupted in ATIH

Now I'm getting this error message all the time: "The file is corrupted"
Is there any way how to restore at least part of the backup?

I mean what sense does it make to make a backup if it gets corrupted so easily and you cannot recover not even a part of the backup. And from the posts here I've seen I'm not the only one.

Of course I've followed your troubleshooting list http://kb.acronis.com/content/1517, but it doesn't solve anything.

I'd be really very grateful for any help on this issue.

Tonik,
Backup files generally get corrupted because of some user intervention or operation on the backup chain (renaming, deleting, moving), because of disk corruption (bad sectors).
After you have tried the typical fixes you mention, there is not much you can do aside from scrapping the backup and starting fresh.
That is the problem with backup software. It puts data in proprietary containers and if the container fails, everything is lost. I backup my content with sync software that doesn't compress or wrap up the content. I backup only the system data with imaging software.
