ATI 2010 b6029 recovery CD - keyboard issue and some pre-loading error?
I just installed the 6029 build trial on another PC to create a bootable recovery CD out of interest to see if anything had dramatically changed.
I noticed something immediately during the boot CD loading... when the cd loads on the blue "Acronis True Image Home" screen, next screen is usually a black linux one which usualy displays 'loading acronis" or something similar, then it displays a quick message about no RAID volumes found before quickly flicking to the main recovery screen.
Now with b6029, this is all the same, except before the no raid volumes found, there's one or two errors mentioned about acpi module or something.. before it continues to load into the main recovery screen.
I didn't think anything of it until I began to browse the program and then found the USB keyboard (Microsoft Ergonomic 4000) wasn't working! No keystrokes acknowledged, and the lights were frozen - couldnt turn off capslock, numlock etc. The USB mouse (Microsoft laser 6000) was, however, working. I removed the keyboard and plugged in another cheap one (one of those rollup silicone ones) and surprisngly it worked. Plugged back Microsoft one, into another port as well as the same port, and nothing... Note that the keyboard works fine elsehwere. and if I get my b5055 CD out it works fine.
Back to the error message on the black loading screen, i tested on another PC with separate hardware and even a PS/2 keyboard, and the preloading error is also present.. so it leads me to believe it's related to Acronis itself. I will try to get more detailed error message in a little bit.
Looks like i might leave my friend's setup running the build5055 for a while, as admittedly its working flawlessly (linux environment) and they're happy. There wasn't any major bugs fixed in 6029 were there? I see the changelog only refers to the boot media once in "Recovery to original location from boot media is enabled".

WildOne, do both of your logitech kb/mouse work when using the first build, 5055?
Also, did you notice the error message when the black screen loads? the one after the CD has finished copying everything to RAM. Normally mine displays the bit about RAID volumes not found, which is right because there are none... but build 6029 now has some silent background error which I'm going to capture.
I hope 6029 wasn't rushed out to fix issues whilst creating others :(
Here's the preload error, before the Acronis screen takes over. I noticed there's a unmount error at the end, when you click the close button.. before it says 'restarting system', all in quick succession.

yep, both worked fine with build 5055, no problems...did notice the msgs you describe but didn't think much of them at the time..using a usb flash drive to boot rather than CD but I don't think it will make a difference....I downloaded the bootable media from Acronis (my account) when build 5055 was the only version available and it works fine on a CD....I noticed they update it to correspond with new build as of 11/3/2009...I have not tried it yet but may download later and give it a try....I use only the very basic features of ATI 2010 such as imaging single partition and file/folders back up...none of the bells and whistles.....and I still feel as if I'm a beta tester.....of course if you cann't restore from boot media I would consider this a major problem...glad I have old boot media on a CD...

to be honest i think it might be a kernel issue. according to (cat /proc/version) the linux kernel they chose for this build is 2.6.31 (shows up as '2.6.31-acronis'). now 2.6.31 was the introduction of USB 3, amongst other things.
i don't think is is a wise move to use such a new kernel for such an important task.. the recovery CD. my linux knowledge is limited, but whenever picking a version for some task, it is best to use a previous which is patched within that tree.
eg. 2.6.27.4 was used in the last version of TI 2009 from what i remember...
with the release of TI 2010 (Build 5055) in september, the kernel they used was 2.6.27.24 - an update that is within the same branch (i don't know the proper nomenclature.. forgive me..)
with TI 2010 (Build 6029), they've used a completely new kernel. In addition, they've either removed the minor version number or it seems they've used the 'base' 2.6.31 (as of today there's 2.6.31.5 released 22 oct - http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/)
Until this is cleared up, i think you are much better using build 5055 recovery CD.. what as for my role i setup a friend using acronis soley using the recovery CD... whether that has implications when dealing with back ups made within windows 6029 environment, i don't know.

I bought this product today and have exactly the same issue with a microsoft wireless keyboard. I'd read how good acronis is supposed to be but data management software that cannot restore in the event of a disaster?? How is one supposed to have confidence is such a product? Starting to look like the usual pc rubbish written by uni dropouts to me.
When will it be fixed so the product is usable?

At least your 5055 boot cd works for you. Not for me. I have used True Image for the past five years. Never have I had problems like these. I am now using Windows 7 X64 (native) and TIH just won't have it. I have created backups successfully but cannot restore ANY image. TIH crashes every time I select an image to restore. All versions of TIH 2010 crash including boot CD versions. THIS PROGRAM IS SUPPOSED TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF MY DATA? Acronis needs to re-think how they're handling the release of this product. This isn't a spreadsheet program, folks. It's a backup of my whole f*****g system!

I thought I should relate my most recent experience today with Acronis ATI2010. For the last number of weeks, after installing V6029, and finding it impossible to backup without a system freeze, I started to backup with the 6029 system generated boot CD regularly with no problem.
After reading just two posts about NO freeze with V6053, I uninstalled V6029 & installed V6053. Before trying any online work with ATI proper, I created the boot CD and tried a boot. I received the acpi ( I think - it was so fast) error message, and the normal ATI working window would not respond to keyboard/mouse (Logitech Cordless Desktop 1500 Rechargeable Mouse & Keyboard, USB). Why should V6029 generated boot CD work and V6053 not????
Rather than reverting back to V6029 with CD boot backups, I'll rescind, and try V5055.
I run an X58 6GB ram Core i7 System with 500Gb system disc raid1 & 1000Gb data disk raid 1 with Windows 7 X64 Ultimate.

Got a very similar problem with every available BOOT-CD (Acronis Loader or IsoLinux) and
my "Logitech Wireless Desktop" connected via USB.
TIH 2010 will work from Boot-Media, but if I select the Backup-Options-Menu,
it resets my PC when returning to Summary (just before starting backup).
Using the mouse to select storage of backup-TIB-File produces loud BEEP-Sound from Speaker.
Greetings,
Sascha

Hello all,
Thank you for posting, I will be happy to help.
If your wireless USB mouse and keyboard, which are parts of a wireless USB kit, do not work in Acronis Bootable Media (the issue described in this article), please log in to your account, go to the Registered products and downloads section -> Bootable media (please note that the license should be registered). We have recently uploaded new files that contain the fix for the issue.
Download the file, create Acronis Bootable Media and check its' functionality..
You can find the information on how to download the appropriate ISOLINUX file in this article.
There are two types of Acronis Bootable Media:
- Acronis Bootable Media that you can generate in your Acronis product. This type of media is based on Acronis Loader;
- Acronis Bootable Media that you can download from your account on the Acronis website. This type of media is based on ISOLINUX.
ISOLINUX Bootable Media is usually more up to date than the Acronis Loader one. This is due to the fact a new version of Acronis Bootable Media is uploaded to the web site more frequently than regular product updates are released.
Please see this article on how to burn an ISO file to a CD disk.
Sascha,
I will contact you via PMs.
Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.
Thank you.
