ATI 2010 - Can the Bootable Media Disk Restore a .tib file from a Network Drive?
Hi Everyone, I'm new to TI so I'm sorry for the lame question.
I have an IBM ThinkPad T30 with a 20GB HDD, I'm upgrading to a 60GB HDD. I've placed my backup image on a Share on another machine.
I have a couple of questions. It seems my Bootable Media can't see the Network Share where the .tib file is located. Is there a way to make the Bootable Media Disk connect to Network Shares?
I have is that the 60GB HDD is not formatted as far as I'm aware and I was wondering if I need to format it prior to my restoring the partition image or does TI take care of that part too?
Lastly, when I restore, do I need to select MBR and Track 0, or does it even matter? There seems to be conflicting information on the forums, possibly due to the various versions of TI.
Again, sorry for being a noob.
Ken

I did figure this out. You have to use the option that says "Computers Near Me" when locating the .tib file.

No formatting is needed. TI restores the sectors in the partition, which include formatting information.

The usual answer to this question is no; there isn't a need for most Windows users to restore MBR and Track 0. Only users with third-party boot managers or with nonstandard MBR code need to do this. However, you may fall into the latter category. Does your ThinkPad still boot to the recovery partition when you press the Blue "Access IBM" (or whatever it is currently named) button? If so, this is done with custom IBM MBR code. So you should also restore the MBR to keep this functionality intact.
