ATI 2012 file restore access denied

Thread needs solution

I installed ATI 2012 on a new laptop. I added the backup from the secondary hard drive (created on the old laptop) to the backup list. I did a file restore to my Documents folder, and I get access denied when I try to open it. I looked at the kb entry, but my userid has administrator rights, and the security tab shows full control.

This is the kb entry: http://kb.acronis.com/content/23823

I read it again and it's not exactly the same thing - I did a full backup of the C: drive (no other hard drives except the external one).

Hello Susan,

Thank you for your post.

Did you try the solution from the KB article that you mention?

Could you also attach this report to your post please.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Anton,

Sorry I haven't replied - I've had a lot of other things going on.

The KB article refers to a file and folder backup (I hadn't read it clearly).

To clarify: I ran a partition backup on Windows XP on the old laptop and tried to do a file and folder restore on Windows 7
on the new laptop.

I'm writing this on a desktop PC so I will generate the system report on the Windows 7 laptop (probably tomorrow) and
post again with the zipped file.

Hi Susan,
Have you tried the solution in KB23823 above? This is very common in windows, and can occur under certain circumstances in various applications.

Basically, there are two ways to get around what has occurred. One method is outlined in the KB article where you are resetting the file permissions granting your user object full control read/write permission of the files and folders which were restored.

Another solution is to "Take Ownership" of the restored (copied) data. The first solution should work and allow access to the files and folders you have restored.
