ATI Home 2012 Plus Pack Boot CD

Thread needs solution

how long should the Windows 7 (PE 3.0) boot disk created in the plus pack take to boot on a core i7 3770K 16gb system?

I have had it at the "Windows is loading files ....." screen for over 20 min. and the bar is @ 1/2 way to the end. This seems far too long.

I'd say it's hung. Is the progress bar moving at all? It shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Longer than the ATI bootCD but not 20 minutes

the process bar is now at 3/4 and its over 45min. should I recreate the boot disk? thanks

It's possible that there are read/write probs. If there's a prob reading or writing, the sector is reread/rewritten until it registers correctly or gives up after a certain number of attempts. So if there are no failures but lot of repeats, that can slow things down a lot. running chkdsk /r on on hard disk should fix any such probs on a hard disk -- on an opti jsut toss it and make a new one - at most you're out the cost of a blank.

Even in a 1x opti drive, I wouldn't expect it to take an hour to boot up.

I've recreated the disk from scratch. Still taking forever to boot. I'll let it go for 10 minutes (outrageously long) and see.

Well, I'm at a loss. This disk is the same as the first. I used a different brand this time, Verbatum, so I don't know what is happening here. Its almost impossible to trouble shoot when there are no messages, just the windows is loading files bar. :(

If you're still in the warranty period, I'd try starting a chat with Tech when you have the time.

Are you sure you have built the winPE correctly with all the correct drivers? That can make all the diff.

Have you another disk you built that worked in the past? Does that still work? If so, I'd double check my procedure for building the winPE disk.

Thanks for your replies ......

Where do the drivers get installed? The instructions in the manual are

8.2.3.1 Creating a new Win PE 2.x or PE 3.0 ISO with the Acronis Plug-in
You must have Acronis True Image Home 2012 Plus Pack installed on your PC.
Creating a new Win PE 2.x or PE 3.0 ISO with the Acronis Plug-in begins from creating a Windows PE
build directory:
1. Select Microsoft Windows AIK -> Windows PE Tools Command Prompt from the Start menu.
Users of Windows 7 should select Microsoft Windows AIK -> Deployment Tools Command
Prompt from the Start menu.
2. Run the copype.cmd script to create a folder with Windows PE files. For example, from a
command prompt, type:
copype x86 c:\winpe_x86
When the operation finishes, create an ISO:
3. Select Acronis -> Plus Pack for Acronis True Image Home 2012 -> Acronis WinPE ISO Builder
from the Start menu.

4. Specify the path to the folder WinPE\ISO, e.g. c:\winpe_x86\ISO.
5. On the next screen choose the Add components and build an ISO option and click Next.
6. Specify the full path to the resulting image file including the filename or leave the default path
and filename (AcronisMedia.iso).

7. Check your settings in the summary screen and click Proceed.
8. Burn the .ISO to a CD using a third-party tool (for example, Nero) and you will have a bootable
Windows PE disc with Acronis True Image Home 2012.
Once a machine boots into WinPE, Acronis True Image Home 2012 starts automatically. Be aware
that startup may take a considerable amount of time.

There is not any mention of adding drivers.

thanks

I found the problem, you cannot use 80min cd's for the boot media. You would think this would be documented.

thanks for the help Scott

Hello Vega and Scott,

Thank you very much for your posts and your help Scott.

Vega, we are sorry for the issue that you experienced, hopefully the following article from our Knowledge Base and this post will be of assistance to you.

Could you also get back to me with some additional information about the CDs that you are using. Are they 80 min. or 800 mb?

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
