ATI Plus Pack build 6597: Recover Operation Failed

Thread needs solution

I have been unsuccesssful restoring any computers from validated backups in the last couple of weeks. I have upgraded since then to the latest build of ATI Home 2011 build 6597 but still get the "Recover Operation Failed" message. I am doing everything the same as I've always done when creating the backup image. There is no additional data or message from the software...I get to the last page, Proceed, and within 2 seconds this message comes up. These most recent systems are Dell laptops with Windows 7 Professional 32bit installed. Before the image is taken, I have formatted the drives to get rid of the Dell Recovery partition. The hard drives range from 250GB to 320GB Western Digital 7200 rpm drives. I have also changed the SATA mode in the BIOS from AHCI to IDE but this has changed nothing. Please help as this is starting to affect my productivity and I'm tempted to blow this software and move back to Ghost. Thanks

Hello Chris!

Welcome to our Forum, it's nice to have you with us. Thank you for reporting about the problem, I will be glad to assist you.

It's hard to say for sure what's causing the recovery failure. Probably it's some hardware conflict, but I'd like to avoid guessing. In order to localize the issue please gather the following information:

  1. Recovery log
  2. Acronis Linux Report
  3. Acronis Report from the source and the target drive
  4. Exact backup location

After that please submit a support request with the information attached, and let us know its number.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

2011 Recovery CD Fails IDE

I have Acronis TIH 2011 with Plus Pack, version 6597. THE ACRONIS RECOVERY CD HAS A BUG AND CANNOT RESTORE TO AN IDE(PATA) HARD DRIVE!!

After much testing, I have concluded that TIH2011 cannot recover any valid full disk image, created from an IDE disk(FAT32 partition), when trying to restore to the same or different IDE disk using the Acronis Recovery CD. The image was created by TIH 2011 installed in Windows XP SP3. I have downloaded the latest Recovery CD from Acronis and it fails with the same error. I have run chkdsk /r on all 3 FAT32 partitions and have run Western digital scans of the drive and no bad sectors are found. I have tried this on different computers with the same results.

But...., I can successfully restore the same (ide) image(s) to a SATA drive with no problems.

The error I consistently get is: "Recovery Operation Failed". The error occurs at the end of restoring the C: partition.

The Acronis Log states:
10:12:34 Recovering Partition
Error
10:19:15 Operation with Partition C was terminated. Details Internal Error: Invalid FAT partition Information (0x70001) Tag0x6B426CBA4C49BAD7
10:19:15 Internal Error: Invalid FAT partition
10:19:17 Recover Operation Failed

Acronis 2011 is useless to me if I cannot recover using the Bootable Recovery Media. I have purchased every version of Acronis since version 6. Version 9 is what I use. Acronis 2010 was buggy and would hang doing searches. Now, with 2011, I can't even use the Rescue CD!

Looks like it's time to look for another backup solution.

Hello Edward!

Thank you for your comment and for reporting about the issue, I really appreciate it, and will be glad to assist you.

I've verified the details with the Development team: they're aware of the issue and managed to fix it, but the fix will be available in the next build. Unfortunately we do not have any ETA when it will be released. We're working on a Custom media right now, I will contact you via PM in a minute.

Meanwhile also please check whether there's enough space on the target drive, as it may be one of the reasons for the problem.

I'm really very sorry for you've faced this issue. Please rest assured that I've forwarded your comments to the Management and Development teams. This will help us to speed up the process of releasing a fix.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Edward, I want to commend you on a very thorough and accurate analysis. I recently upgraded from from ATI Home 2010 to ATI Home 2011. I backed up a Gateway Notebook (than truns XP). I then did some analysis with a second Internet Security product (for a "sanity check"). When I was done testing and went to restore the backup it failed.

I searched this web site, saw your posting and realized that was likely the problem. I then did a product update, cut a new recovery CD and was able to restore. In that I had destroyed my old ATI Home 2010 CD (thinking I would never revert), I was unable to restore from an older ATI backup as well.

But what I really want to say is you did an outstanding job that any professional tester would be proud of.

Note to Acronis: If there is a way to nominate a contributor to the knowledge list, I should like to nominate Edward B for outstanding work.

Thanks & Best Regards,

Vince Scott

It is real simple to get the Acronis update.

On my Vista Machine I went to "All Programs"
Then the "Acronis Folder"
Then the "Acronis True Image Home 2011" Subfolder
The I selected "Check For Updates"

It found the update (and it was a pretty large download).

After the update was installed, I created a new CD "Bootable Media Builder" option. I also created a USB bootable version as my newest HP will not boot Acronis from a CD.

Feel free to keep me posted on your progress.

Best Regards,

Vince Scott

I have updated the latest build 6857, and have made a new bootable USB. But, it gives the same error message.
