ATIH 2010 None Partition error

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I wonder if anyone else has had a similar problem and could possibly help me?

I am trying to do a full backup to a brand new Seagate 3TB Expansion external USB hard drive.
When in 'Partitions to Backup' in Acronis True Image Home 2010 and I look in 'Disk Properties' it states that there is no file system on the Seagate drive.
When I try to make a backup to it I get a message which says 'The filename, location or format is invalid'
I can also see FS: None Partition 0x7 (NTFS, HPFS).

I have used the 'Clean' command of the Diskpart program to delete the GPT Protective Partition as Acronis True Image Home 2010 is not able to work with drives which contain that type of partition which tends to come preinstalled on 3TB hard drives. I do not have the Plus Pack.

I have initialised the drive and selected MBR which is what Acronis recommend for Acronis True Image Home 2010. This means that I am only able to use 2TB for backups as the unused 1TB partition does not give me the option to do anything with it since when I right-click it is greyed-out.

I have created a new simple volume on the 2TB partition and formatted it as NTFS.

This is recognised in Windows Explorer and also under Disk Management.

However, Acronis does not see that it has been formatted and I am therefore unable to backup an
Acronis image to it.

If anyone can point me in the right direction then I would be most grateful.

If I have left out any important information in my query then I am happy to include it in any reply I make.

Thank you

Steven

We have seen cases where ATI sees some leftover information about the disk information and refuses to recognize it. You could try to use diskpart to first blank the disk and then use the ACronis recovery to "add new disk" so that ATI does it own disk initialization on that disk. Not sure this will work.
