ATIH 2011 does not install

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I spent hours trying to install ATIH 2011 in Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit (some Features ommitted with vLite).

What I tried:
- as a simple user update install over 2010
- as Administrator update install over 2010
All following actions were done as an Administrator
- uninstall 2010 in new install 2011
- uninstall 2010 with Revo Uninstaller and running CCleaner and install 2011
- checking that Temp-Folder of Administrator is empty and new install of 2011
- deactivating "Microsoft Security Essentials" and "Avira Antivir Pro" and Windows Firewall
and Explorer and install 2011

Everything was in vaine.
What Windows-Features are essential for ATIH 2011? Is Windows Recovery nesseccary?

Please see attached Log-File.

Kind regards

Doby

Hello,

I likely have solution for you (perhaps) I am a True Image user for many years. I wanted to test TI Home 2011 and so downloaded the trial (v5105).

In keeping with testing software in a situation that cannot be effected by ofter junk; I did my usual, that is (I used slide-in Hard drives drawers, so this is all easy.

1-wiped the HDD

2. Installed MS 32 bit Vol Lic XP pro SP3 (our Corp has a mega lic!)

3. After this was working, used MS Win UPDATE to bring the system EXACTLY up to current status. This included all required as optional files (I repeat ALL).

4.Included were all drivers for video, network USB ...etc.

5. Attempted to install ATI 2011-5105.

6..OOPS...THe HDD led blinked a few time then the system returned, having installed NOTHING!

7. Ok, I will skip to the cause/solution. In my opinion, Acronis (atleast on the Trial, but I suspect the retail installer as well.

8. The solution is to Google, on MICROSOFT " C redistributable ... ver 2005. Basically, these are library files...that simply are never installed by Windows XP regardless of version or update.

9. These routines are used by very many software programs MS or otherwise and so if you try to install ATI2011 on a system that "just by luck had these files installed by another SW program...well you'll never see the problem....

In my opinion, this is a (shall we say error by the Acronis ATIteam!

10 If ATI2011 is compliled with the proper options, the " C Redistribution Package V2005) or newer will be included. BUT it wasn't done.

11. By the way, this situation does not happen on a totally virgin Win 7 system. I suspect MS has included the needed functionality.

I *HAVE* taken great care (several days ago" to notify Acronis Support, and they were to included the ATI development team and correct this problem...I suppose with:

First a Support/forum workaround, and then correct the error in the next release of ATI 2011.

Hello Robert,

thank you for your comment. Does this mean I have wait weeks or even months until Acronis offers a solution? In this case I will get my money back.

My answer is, maybe what I described IS your problem...or with the limited information it might not be. I only have the *impression* (perhaps wrong, that Acronis either hasn't tested this or doesn't think it's important...which would be really dumb, becuase if potential customers cannot install TI-2011, well they won't order it!

And again, some large portion of people either: a- are running Win7 (not effected) maybe it's the same for Vista I don't know OR
the majority of people install STI 2011 Trial and or (?) full retail or at least web download and DO try to install on Win XP, but the "missing files...from the installation" alreaday exist on their PC..in which case, the problem does not appear.
So, MY ADVICE...if in your situation you D/L ATI2011 Trial and try to install (double click the EXE), but then nohing really happens...well it is clear...you have the same issue I finally found.

The solution for that PC is REALLY simple .... if your symptom matches my description.

1. Simple browse to: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=32bc1bee-a3f9-…

2 download/save the 2005 redistribution package..it's small.

3. Simple 2x-click and run it...not big did, it can hurst NOTHING and only takes < 1 minutes.

4. After, to be sure all buffers are cleare...normally not needed..reboot Win XP..

5. Attempting to install ATI 2011 should now work as expected.

*Can you please provide some feedback about your result???

THX BOB

Hello Bob,

the very first sentence of my post says, that I'm running Windows 7. Therefore I don't think your solution will fit.

I'm still waiting for someone from Acronis to check my logfile and give some promising hint.

I appreciate your effort and thank you.

Kind regards

Doby

I am running Win 7 Pro 64x. I no longer recall which software I installed ( perhaps Adobe Acrobat Pro) but I do recall some software I was installing asking for permission to install the C Redistribution Package V2005.

And I recall thinking ... "do I want to let it do this" ... why install software that seems to be so "old" ... what is this install routine up to? I was cautious and suspicious to say the least.

Anyway, I did finally calm my nerves enough to do some investigating .. it is a legit MS package ... the software I was installing was legit and I was backed up (another brand of software at the time) so I decided to let it install.

It has been there running for months now ... I've seen several software programs I've installed since then check to see if I had it and some offer to check to see if it needed to be updated. And everything, including Acronis True Image 2011 build 5519 has installed and run perfectly. I mean ZERO issues.

So don't be in a hurry to dismiss Robert's suggestion. If your computer has the C Redistribution Package V2005 it will tell you when you start the install from the MS page. If not, you can HURT NOTHING by installing it and yes, I am still surprised by the number of software programs that look for it / offer to install it if needed / and that use it.

Maybe ATI doesn't auto install the C package. That doesn't mean it doesn't need it or doesn't use it. You really have nothing to lose here by installing the MS package in my experience using Win 7 Pro.

May I also mention how impressed I am with this new 2011 ATI software. WOW, the guys finally got it right! Intuitive, fast and easy to use. Everything that 2009 was NOT, for me at least. I struggled with 2009. I'm glad I decided to take a leap to the upgraded version. Best money I've spent this month. Everything now makes sense; is where I expect it to be ... just very nice.

I installed x86 and x64 of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (8.0.50727.42) and repeated installation of ATIH 2011 build 5519.

I'm still getting an Errormessage in German which would meen in English:
"The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image Home could be installed. You need to restart the installer again."

Again I append the logfile.

Hello all!

Thank you for finding time to open the thread regarding this installation issue and for your comments!

Doby, thank you for the log provided. According to it there are some product keys are blocked from proper assigning. This situation is not typical: I've checked all our internal resources and found no mention of a known issue that would match this description. So it requires further investigation.

Please gather the following data from the problem machine:

  1. Procmon
  2. Acronis Info
  3. MSI log

After that please kindly contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Hello all,

using Procmon and the MSI-Log I finally found, that the Install is rolled back, when one special Registrykey is not found.
As I mentioned in my very first post I used a Windows 7 Installation, where some features are omitted with tools like vLite or RT7Lite.
Using these tools I removed the Backup & Restore Feature. It is just that featue which ATIH 2011 is using to places an Icon in the Control Panel.

My solution: I used a standard windows 7 installation, exported the neccessary Registrykey and imported this key in my slipstreamed Windows. ATIH 2011 finds the key during install and everything is allright.

Good luck for all having the same trouble.

I have had problems installi ng the last 2 verzions and the previous build of atih 2011.

The problem has been the win xp and win7 vc-80 krey problem.

The clearance for this is to run "true image home cleanup" then go to "services" and make sure that "windows modules installer" is running. This will clear up the problem and the program will install smoothly.

This is not an ATIH problem it is a windows problem and is easily cleared up.

Good luck.

Best regards,

Quincey.

I am also at wits end. I cleared registry issues, installed newest build today. ATIH2011 just will not start.

I do have progress - now the start-up screen to the progam starts for 10 seconds. and gives me:

AppName: trueimage.exe AppVer: 14.0.0.6857 ModName: msvcr80.dll ModVer: 8.0.50727.762 Offset: 000046b4

I saved files from temp:
764a_appcompat.txt
31b_appcompat.txt
fe27_appcompat.txt

Where do I send these?

Hello Richard,

your comment leaves some questions.

- Windows Version ?
- Windows Updates up to date ?
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005/2008 Redistributable: which Packages are installed?
- Anti Virus - Software active ? Did you try to start ATIH2011 without Anti Virus Software?
- Did you try to completely uninstall ATIH2011 and do a fresh install?

Try to get in contact with Acronis Support. The person I had contact to was at least anxious to help help me.

Kind regards

Doby

Thanks for the encouragement Dolby.

As paying client, I never liked being a beta tester for microsoft.
No different here.

Hello Richard,

why do you think that this is a Microsoft issue?
The attached file 31b_appcompat.txt doesn't say anything to me.
Again, try to get Acronis support involved.

Kind regards

Doby

Thanks again Dolby -

Nothing to do with MS, just an issue of software not developed well enough to go out the door, thus I have come a beta tester for the companies that get paid to correct these issues.

I don't know how to get support without paying again.

Hello Richard,

you should register your ATIH2011 at Acronis. See this Link: http://kb.acronis.com/content/4834
