ATIH 2012 HDD-> SSD-> HDD Help please
A month ago, I created a backup of C:, then installed an SSD, and restored to it. Works great!
Now I want to go back.
So I created a new backup of C: [which is now SSD], and tried to restore it to a new HDD, which I had configured with ATIH Add a New Disk Wizard, selecting the Initialize in MBR Layout method.
Adding the HHD works, and my computer recognizes it [Win 7 Pro 64bit].
1. If I restore the SSD backup, the process fails with the ATIH popup saying so. HDD is then not recognized by Win7, but ATIH shows it as Unallocated.
2. If I restore the old HDD backup to it, the process completes, but the computer will not boot from it [computer tells me to boot from floppy]. After booting W7 from another partition, the new HDD is shown as Unallocated again.
Help please ;-)
thanks!

Thank you, I'll check those tutorials, since I was never able to restore a backup to the new HDD.
In the meantime, I was able to perform a clone from the 60GB SSD boot drive to my desired HDD boot drive, a 150GB Raptor.
New problem, though, is that Windows now says my installation fails the Windows Genuine Validation and I need to perform a clean install after purchasing a new key.
If I did a new install, of course I would just use my current key, but a clean install defeats the whole purpose of restoring the backup.
Any clues?
Win 7 Pro 64bit.
Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
Regarding WPA. It typically triggers if changes to 3 or more hardware devices occur within a 120 day period. There are exceptions of course.
OEM copies of windows are not transferable to new hardware. The hardware an OEM license is activated on is a single use, even if the hardware breaks or becomes unusable.
Retail copies of windows can be activated an unlimited amount of times, but can only be in use on one machine at a time.
MS constantly updates it's activation technologies but what I described above generally applies. They do have customer service which can issue you a new activation if it's determined that your license is valid for the hardware you are activating on.
I suggest you speak with them to get your licensing issue resolved. They have been helpful on the two or three occasions I've had to call in the past.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply!
By the next day, the activation was automagically resolved. In fact, I just retried it now, and this installation still passes.
All is good, take care.
