ATIH 2012 repeatedly crashes, even with reinstall

Thread needs solution

I have purchased a version of ATIH 2012 (build 6131, taken from the filename). Upon install, it downloads the latest update (Update 2, build 7119). My OS is WinXP.

The installation went flawlessly, but upon first execution, when I clicked the menu option "Backup Recovery", then "Other backups" the program crashed.

On restart, when sitting idle for about 23 seconds, it crashes again without any user interaction.

When trying to re-create the crash, the program no longer crashes on the above issues, but on arbitrary other places (menu options, when doing a backup etc.).
Once I started the Process Monitor, as suggested in a forum post. When it had reached about 3 million entries, I closed it, only for ATIH to crash just after that.

I deactivated my Antivirus software, but no change.

I went offline and tried to install the original file I downloaded, but it aborted with an error and rolled back.

Trying the regular install (downloading the update) thereafter failed as well.

I now have a product that does not work at all.

Being at my wits end, I am now asking for installation support.

Depending upon your needs, I would start by opening the Services module and
Stop the Acronis Non-stop backup service and change the service from automatic to manual.

Stop the Acronis Syn-agent service and change the service from automatic to manual.

After you get your install working correctly, you can add these back later upon demand.

Quite often with many of the backup programs, having more than one installed can cause one or none of them to work.
