ATIH 2013 - Partition backup "corrupt" immediately

Thread needs solution

Hi all

I'm using Acronis True Image Home 2013 (with Plus Pack), build 6514.

A few days ago I attempted to restore my system partitions from an incremental backup using Acronis. This failed because the backup was "corrupted". So, I reinstalled Windows from scratch.

With the new Windows install in place (and before installing any further software), yesterday I installed Acronis again and set up a new scheduled incremental partitions backup. The partitions I selected were the 3 partitions on my primary SSD (being two hidden partitions that Windows creates when installed to a blank drive, plus the C:\ drive). The backup location was a folder on a 500 GB partition (Z:\) on a separate internal magnetic hard drive.

Scarred by the apparent "corruption" of my previous backup, I also set Acronis to validate the backup automatically. It did this and confirmed it was valid.

Today I installed the rest of my software, and then clicked "backup now" in Acronis to create a new version of the backup. Unfortunately, this failed, telling me that the backup was corrupted.

Within Acronis, I then deleted the second version, and validated the backup again. For some reason, even with only the version from yesterday, Acronis reported that the backup was corrupted - even though the .tib file had not been modified since yesterday, and yesterday it validated successfully.

Frustrated, I removed this backup from Acronis (kept the .tib file) and created a new partition backup. I understand that Windows' own backup utility sometimes has issues with the two hidden partitions on EFI systems, so this time I set Acronis to backup only the C:\ partition.

As soon as it completed, it validated, and...corrupted!

Now, no matter what I do, if I create a backup of C:\ drive, Acronis instantly tells me it's corrupted. This makes the backup useless since Acronis refuses to restore if it's corrupted.

I've scanned both C:\ drive and Z:\ drive with Windows' drive tools and there are no errors on either.

Can anyone help me with why I can't back up my C:\ drive?

Thanks...

Hello Aaron,

thank you for your posting!

Please follow the troubleshooting steps in this article. There are many possible causes of creation corrupted backups, not necessarily disk errors. E.g. network issues or RAM corruption.

Thank you.

Thanks Anna.

As it turns out, I have (so far) managed to make a valid backup by lowering the compression setting. That sort of isn't ideal but it's working, so I'll stick with that for the time being.

If you have not tried, another possibility is to do a backup when booted from the user created TI Recovery CD and also validate from the CD.
