Backing up across multiple hard disks (NAS backup)

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Hoping someone can help confirm/disconfirm the ability of ATIH 2011 to do harddisk spanning:

I am hoping that I can use my ATIH to backup 6TB of NAS data onto 6 x 1 TB External Harddisks (Western Digital My Books). I tried to do that using file backup but once it exceeded 1TB of file selection, I get the error message "There is not enough free space" for my destination (of 1TB external hdd). Backup spanning doesn't seem to apply here.

Can ATIH or any other form of Acronis be used to backup 6tb of data onto 6x1 TB of external HDDs?

I have the same problem.
I bought a Startech SATA USB 3 dock for my HDD's to backup my NAS and it mounts my drives as internal and not as ejectable/removable drives. Any update on this issue?

Welcome,
I don't recall if 2011 has the ability to do this. However, it's been a long while since I've used 2011.

2013 on the other hand does offer the ability for you to "span" a backup across multiple drives or destinations. Please see pages 56-58 in the 2013 User guide.

Here are some things to keep in mind.

Whenever you span a single .tib file, there is always a certain level of risk associated with this action. Meaning that problems or physical issues with any of the target devices might keep you from reading or restoring a "spanned" image.

Spanning is not automatic. Referred to as "on the fly" split. During a back up operation, when ATI detects that there is insufficient space on the target (destination) the user is prompted for action. You must either free up space on the current media or manually specify the location of the next portion of the image. Note: splitting can only occur during image creation. File system size limitations are handled automatically.

Consolidation of large image files and .tib's spanned across multiple targets may prove difficult to manage.
