Backing up to Drive E: and Acronis is trying to prune F: WHYYYYYYYY?????

Thread needs solution

We have been trying to use this program on many of our clients and we are just running into the most annoying problems and I'm getting ready to recommend we don't use it anymore.

The latest problem is one of my clients I setup a daily backup which runs a batch file after each job to mirror the backup drive to a second drive which leaves the premises.

The backup runs fine, the backup file is created. Then Acronis for some stupid reason tries to prune the backup file from the wrong drive!?!? See log below.

I have both drives plugged into the PC. Backup happens on Drive E per the backup settings. It is only supposed to retain 1 copy but it is not pruning at all.

It backs up to E: then tries to delete the old backup file on F:.

What the heck is that all about? It's causing every job to fail every day! This is a brand new install. I created one job for Monday then cloned it several times for each day of the week. Any help thanks?

I may have just solved this myself. Acronis in it's infinite wisdom is evidently trying to find backups and automatically adding them to its program as it sees fit which should not be a default option!

I clone my backups to another drive since Acronis stinks at allowing me to swap out drives etc and not fail if a certain version is missing. So I leave one drive static that never is unplugged and I use a batch file to copy backups to another drive that Acronis is not supposed to care about so I can unplug it as necessary and take backups offsite. Turns out the default option in Acronis is to search at startup for other backups, which it automatically adds to my versions of my backups from a different drive letter, then it gets all sorts of confused and tries to delete the wrong one during pruning.

So I unchecked that option, cleaned up all the versions except the last one and here's to hoping this solves the problem forever.

This is still happening and it's driving me nuts. Why won't this program work right?

I have no backups backing up to F: but this program is constantly trying to prune files from F: when I am backing up to E:!!!

Auto Search for backups is NOT CHECKED. When I click on Recover the only backup in the timeline is the last backup created on drive E: as it should be. Yet the program is trying to Prune the wrong drive letter every single time! How many times must I set this up before it will start working?

On top of that my batch file is working fine. After every backup, the backup is robocopied to F: via a batch file. It works, but Acronis is reporting that it is failing?? Why?????
Execution of user command C:/Users/Admin/Desktop/CopyBackups.bat failed. Error code: 1 <---No it didn't fail.

I'm going to delete all the jobs and recreate them one more time. If it doesn't work right, I'm scrapping this program.

18 months on and there is no answer from Acronis to this crazy behaviour.

This program really has some attrocious quirks and the support is disgraceful!

Rob,

You just ressurected an 18 month old thread.  The bahavior being described is not the programs fault, its a lack of understanding on the users part.  This behavior can be disabled and is well documented.

Are you having an issue?  Did you need assistance with something specific?  If so, please start a new topic describing the problem you are experiencing.  Please include the version and build of Acronis you are using, the OS you are running and any troubleshooting steps you have performed thus far.

Dear Shadowsports

Please see my new post in the forum.  I posted here because there was no answer and none anywhere else on the forum that made senses!

The behaviour is very badly documented - I could not find it or on this forum or I would not have posted.

I am still using ATI2014 because ATI 2015 seems to have been a dumbed down disaster, and ATI2106 is not much better, and these people at Acronis do not know or understand how to explain what changes they have made in their upgrades.

Rob

Hi Rob,

This might help :)
