Backup completed successfully with errors. File doesn't exist now. What?

Thread needs solution

Yesterday I had a second hard drive that was taking a long time to read files from. I decided to image the drive with True Image and replace the drive. I have done this many times without any issues...until now.

About an hour after backing up the drive it disappeared from bios and just clicks after the reboot. The backup was all I had. I installed a new drive and went to restore, but there was no file on the external. I'm not a rookie doing this so this was routine.

The log said "Operation with partition 'E:' was terminated. Read error 0X70003."

Did True Image delete the backup file from the drive because there were errors?

This makes no sense to me and only about 60 out of 360gb of data were backed up on another device. The 300gb I lost were not irreplacable, but will be painful to recreate. I only had one shot and I trusted Acronis because it has never failed me before. Now I feel it would have been smarter to just copy as many files off as I could before the drive failed. As it is now I have nothing.

It sounds like the source drive went bust before the backup was completed, in which case you have no backup. If this is the situation, I don't think it is ati's fault; it's a matter of a drive dieing before it was backed up. Sometimes the last minute is not long enough. :(
