BAckup failed, deleting failed, new backup failed. I do not understand the messages.

Thread needs solution

Backup failed. No obvious warning - I thought it was OK.

Error messages make no sense to me. Point at nothing.

My understanding is that if I simply go and delete the directory Acronis built for the specific backup it screws up the database Acronis uses. Which si why I did not take this approach.

Of course I can't copy and paste information from the log window (good thinking) and I don't see the file itself in the acronis folder in program files.

Yet again I have no backup.

Short form;

I started on (not intending to) and canceled it.

Next day I deleted the backup. Again no notification I noticed, but it failed. Started a new one. Same deal no obvious notice, but it failed. Apparently during verification.

Hal,

What version and build of TIH?

Has it been working and suddenly stopped or is this a new install?

Are you trying to make a disk or partition image or a files and folders?

What happens if you don't validate the task?

Are your drives encrypted or compressed?

Are you storing the tib file on an external drive, netowrk drive or an internal drive?

Current version of tih2011; assuming that it is looking for the current version as I told it to.

It has been working, in various unexplainable, non-obvious, and annoying ways, for for months.

Partitions.

I don't know. Why would I do that?

Not encrypted, target max compression.

Target drive is a eSATA mirrored RAID on a hardware controller in a box.

Oh, Win 7 Pro 64

Validation uses a lot of your PC's resources, so it might be failing at this point, trying a task that does not validate might point to where TIH is falling down.

Having said that, eSata can be a problem as eSata devices can be flaky. If at all possible can you try imaging to either a USB drive or another internal drive/partition, just to see if this is the problem.

I would also suggest using 'normal' compression instead of 'max', if the IO buffer of your PC/eSata drive is having problems, this could be another area of flakiness.

Basically we need to find out if the TIH install itself is the problem or if there is an external influence helping it too fail.
