Backup keeps starting over

Thread solved

I have TI setup to back up my entire c drive each night. The first file it creates is around 90 MB and then each night after another 5 MB file, or so, is created to add to that. After about six such files are created, the original archive is abandoned and another started. So if my original backup was named "My Backup," after a week or so, a new backup with the name of "My Backup(2)" will be started and the updates for the following days attached to it. By the time it gets around to the fourth new backup, I'm out of disk space due to the three or four 90 MB files.

In previous versions, when a backup was started, incremental updates would be attached to it until I ran out of space or stopped it. It appears there is some limit in 2011 that prevents the backups from going over a certain size or time. Is anyone seeing this or know of a way to stop it?

Tilden,

The defaut scheme for the backup is "version chain". This means it creates a full, then 6 differentials, then a new full.
You can customize the backup scheme.
It is better to create a new backup task to experiment.
Click on Disk and Partition backup to create a new backup
Click on the blue link in the upper right "swith to disk mode"
Click on the disk that contains your system
Verify the destination is right
Click on Version Chain. A new window will pop up
Click on the betton that shows Version Chain, choose custom in the drop menu
Then select the type of backup you want (eg full, differential, incremental)
Adjust your parameters
Make sure you are still on the backup scheme tab of that window when you click OK to close it.

Remember: with ATI 2011, there is no concept of "adding" an incremental to another backup. A backup chain is conceived as full, increment OR differential at set up time. Then, ATI first creates a full backup in any case, then a full, differential or incremental, depending on the case.
