Backup of networked computer
Today I tried for first time to backup files from a networked compter. The settings window asked and accepted credentials for other computer. It shows all folders and files there. I selected My Documents and it calculated size of backup. Did save. Then clicked on backup now. After short time it gives backup failed and log shows "No files found" even though it had found them during set up.
TI is on computer using Widows XP, networked computer is Windows 98SE.
Upgraded to TI 2013 on 19 Dec and find support already expired. Not happy that I can't ask Acronis about it so soon after purchasing when this was one of reasons for purchase.
Can anyone here help please?

I'm trying to image from the 98SE machine. It's going to a USB connected drive on my XP machine. I'm not wanting to do nonstop backups. (The XP backups work fine.) I didn't understand why if TI finds all the files in the set up process that it can't find them during backup.
I assume it's the thing you've called mapped share. It is a Windows sharing connection not via an IP address. It does have an IP address (192.168.1.x) because it's plugged into my router with ethernet cable. How do I connect machines using IP address.
(I know a reasonable amount about computers but not too much about networking.)

Henry,
Often users create a mapped disk drive: the folder that is shared in computer A appears then as an other disk in computer B. ATI (Acronis True Image) has issues with mapped drives.
When you select what to backup in ATI, don't navigate to what to backup through a mapped drive. Instead use the network folder in the left selection pane. If this fails, there might be a bug with 2013.

Henry,
Have you tried a simple file copy of the "My Documents" folder from the 98 system to a folder on your XP system using Windows Explorer? Does it work? If so, than the issue may be in 2013.
Try the method MVP Pat L has suggested, as it seems to be the best method for backing up shared drive/files/folders from a network share.
One option, if you have the space on your XP system, would be to copy the files from the 98 system My Documents folder to a folder on your XP system. The folder then would be included in your full backup of your XP system. At least the files would be backed up. You could use the 2013 sync option (or other sync software) to keep the two folders synchronized, so that the backup of your XP system will always contain the latest files from the 98 folder.

Thanks for comments.
Firstly, I did select the drive and folders using the network folder in left hand pane and as I said it recognised them quite happily. It is a mapped drive however called X and that is how it appears in the Network folder.
I can copy files or folders from the 98SE machine to the XP machine using any normal windows copy methods. I can load and save them using Word or any other program such as Adobe Reader on the XP computer.
I even think earlier versions of TI used to work because I still have an old backup file which TI 2013 finds. Can't try previous versions agian though as I had to delete last version before I could install 2013.
From what you are suggesting it looks like a bug in 2013. How can I report this though?

I will elevate this thread to Acronis and see if they pick it up (they don't do this systematically as this is not an Acronis support forum).

Thanks Pat. I really think Acronis should give support at least one month after it's activated not from when purchased. I bought upgrade just before Christmas, thought I ought to do full backup with old version and therefore didn't get around to new version until 13 January (it then took 3 days to backup my C drive) and only tried to backup from other computer on 23 January. There doesn't seem to be a way of passing on suspected bugs which is why I tried this forum. I've been using several versions of True Image since about 2002 and think regular customers should be treated better.
At least this forum tries to help people - so thanks to you and Colin.

i am trying to back up some network folders, it was successful at first, then i started getting messages like, "failed to back up file or folder...foxuser.dbf" and "failed to back up file or folder...foxuser.ftp", then it said ""failed to back up file or folder... .sync". like i said, at first it worked fine, then this, and i haven´t done anything to this files, don´t know what .sync means.
before this, iwas backing up a large folder, all was well, then i changed some file names within this folder. after that, i started to see messages of failed back ups of files that i changed names. ie: of old file names, and rejected the new ones. the message said somthing like this "failed to back up file or folder... .shadow/.sync/the old file name"
i can´t find anything in the KB. i use W7 Professional and True Image 2013.

I would still like some help from Acronis Support on this please. I have purchased many copies of True Image over a period of more than 10 years and I think it is very poor customer relations not to sort out probable bugs. I seem to have purchased an "upgrade" that is worse then earlier versions.

TI 2013 doesn't officially support Windows 98 or SE, maybe that is the cause of the current problem.
