Backup operation failed. message using ATIH 2012, build 7119, bootable media
Received “Backup operation failed” messages repeatedly about 3 DVDs into backing up my grandkids older model computer. Thought I might have a software problem due to an error message received during boot from the boot media (search forum for “libpcap.so.1 missing” post). After many tries I concluded that the error message at boot was most likely unrelated to the problem. The computer is a mid-2000s model running Windows XP. I decided to try a new, external, USB CD/DVD reader/writer. Backups are now running to completion, including the validate process after the last backup volume is created.
Hope this saves someone else all of the time and DVDs I’ve burned up before figuring out the above solution.
When this error occurred, no Acronis log file was created on the thumb drive I had in another USB port for the purpose of capturing a log file if one was created.

Thanks for the info. FYI - The error message was still there with the new, external, drive attached. I didn't mean to imply in my original post that the message went away during boot.

Thanks for your follow up post. I can't take full credit for the explaination. I had to look back at earlier version of the product where I found others with similar issues.
Based on what I learned, multiple hardware checks are performed. Storage controller, network adapter, IP configuration, disk partition structure, etc. I am less knowledgeable about the software environment, but believe your issue was related to hardware.
