Backup Plan that manages storage by itself?
Hi folks. I feel like I've been troubled by this for years. All i want to do is setup a backup that manages the storage by itself and deletes the old stuff when it needs to make room for the new stuff. I don't think I've ever managed to get this working with this product. It never deletes the old stuff. I don't know if it is something that I am doing wrong or what. Help with constructing a backup plan that will delete old to make room for new would be appreciated.
As you can see, I have the job set to delete old backup versions after 30 days. I started the backup on 9/7, then started getting errors about space on 10/8 saying the target drive is running out of space and asking me to delete unnecessary files or choose another archive location. Why do I need to answer that if I have it set to 30 days and it's complaining on day 31? I just want it to delete teh old stuff whenever it has to.
Help? Thanks. Sorry, very frustrated with this.

Brant,
You have chosen consolidation rather than outright deletes of old.
Also, whatever number of backups you set as your criteria, the program will not make any removal of old until the most recent backup within that group reaches 30 days old. In other words, if you chose full plus 10 inc and keep 30 days, the elimination does not begiin until the #10 inc is 30 days old.
Consolidation has proved troublesome in the past. I prefer outright deletion of old as per these examples. Choose the type backup which fits you best.
GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme. 6 Inc, Keep 4 chains. The 6-4 is an example only with user choice for whatever number of chains to be retained best fits the individual needs.
Note/example: If rule selected is "Delete older than 7 days" is selected, deletion will not begin until the first chain (7 files) is completed and entire chain is older than 7 days.
