Backup taking a very long time and stuck on ~2 hours time left

Thread needs solution

New very fast Win 7 computer and installed newest True Image 2013. I started a new full image backup and it is still going 26 hours later. It has been stuck on "Time left: +/- 2 hours" for at least 6 hours with green bar stuck at around 90% (estimated time going up a few minutes, not down).

I am backing up 3 internal drives with a total of about 400GB of data to external 2TB drive via FW.

I used all default settings for compression, etc.

thanks for any help on how to make time shorter and get this completed.

I will want to make regular incremental backups, if this one will ever complete.

Sage,

Did you by any chance enable sector-by-sector backup mode? This is normally not needed.

Theoretical backup speed of 400Mbps for (Firewire 400) backing up 400GB of data should take slightly over two hours (plus any overhead).

If this a file/folder based or disk/partition based backup?

Are the "three drives" actually independent disks, or volumes/partitions on one disk?

Thanks James, for the response.

I don't think I enabled sector-by-sector, I just selected the drives and destination and started it.

It's a disk/partition backup. I have 3 independent disks.

The backup is still running right now, still saying 2 hours to go. Maybe I should cancel out of it so the log and settings can be checked.

I tried Cancelling and no response and computer locked up. Had to do a hard reboot.

Started the True Image backup again after reboot. At first it said "Time left: 2 hours". Then in a little while it said 7 hours to go, then the estimate gradually increased until it got to "Time left: 13 hours". I cancelled, and that worked this time.

Then I tried a different hard drive, but still the long time estimate happened with that too.

Compression is set to Normal and sector-by-sector is not checked.

Any ideas?

I want to add that 350GB of data was copied to the external drive and when I try to open/view it with True Image it says it is locked or corrupted.

What build of 2013 are you running?

Was there a resolution to this question. I continue to struggle with excessive backup times very similar to the problem described here.

Me Too!
I have a moderately fast W7 machine; and I am backing up to a WD Network Drive.
Backup sometimes fails to automatically start at 11 PM for a few days, then it resumes, but takes a very long time.

I have a very fast Win7 based PC, a 1Gb/s LAN and a Netgear NAS which copes very well with large files being thrown at it - cannot be described as slow.
However ATIH2013 regularly fails to synchronise my data files to the NAS and/or to the Winserver2011 folders due to timeouts.
Backups of the 120Gb SSD drive and 250Gb SATA2 drive takes in excess of 20 hours and often fail.
