Backup Verificatin on System Shutdown
I have installed TI Home 2011 on two machines - both high end with Windows 7 Ultimate. The installation was done last week with full disk backups plus daily incremental backups (using CHAIN2GO). On both machines i have three backup jobs defined. A full Disk backup (monthly), a daily Documents backup, and a daily backup of the other computer's My Documents Directory.
My full backup are about 111 Gig, and 60 Gig, the incrementals are about 6 Gig.
Since I am still learning ATI, on Monday I changed the regular daily backup scripts to shut down on completion. I then changed all scripts (3 scripts on each computer) to verify the backup on shutdown.
At the same time, i changed the scheduling time and made my daily backups. On Tuesday AM, i rebooted my computers and they went into what apparently is file backup verification. The message i got was "Operations are in progress. Please Wait. The machine will be trurned off automatically when the operations are complete." This went on for two hours and since i am an independent consultant who bills by the hour, i could wait no more so i shut the systems down manually (power switch) and rebooted.
After i got the systems back up i removed any form of verification from all back up jobs and went merrily on my way.
I backed up again manually so no backups were run automatically. This morning (Wednesday) I rebooted the systems and again they apparently went into file verification with the above message. So far today they have been running for over four hours . . . (I am losing billable time this is not acceptable. Argh!!!!!)
I have several questions first the urgent ones:
1. It appears that the verification scheduled task did not get cleared, from my description does that make sense to you?
2 I need to shut down the machines manually and get back to work. I need to clear the verification task so this doesn't happen tomorrow. How do i do that?
Now the less urgent questions:
3. Are the systems in a deadly embrace with each trying to look at the other to verify the cross system backups, but with the systems in shutdown mode they are unreachable?
4. When verification is done on shut down does it verify everything every time, or just the jobs that were backuped up since the last shutdown?
5. If I put verification on three different jobs will the scheduler perform the verification three times?
???? help ????

Hello Larry, Nick and Keith,
Thank you for finding time to open the thread regarding this issue and for your comments. I understand your concern and will be glad to assist you.
Due to the lack of diagnostic information it's hard to say for sure what was the cause, but it looks like it was some Scheduler glitch. In order to fix it, please
- Download Acronis Scheduler Manager. Open command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd); run schedmgr.exe and issue the following command:
task zap
This will erase all traces of the tasks. - Update Scheduler as mentioned in this article
- Reboot the machine
- Recreate the tasks
Should the issue persist, please gather
- Acronis Info
- Exact sequence of steps performed
After that please kindly contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you!

What is the situation with this problem. I have just installed True Image 2011 and have just done a simple backup and then chose the Shutdown option and got this 'Operations are in progress. Please wait' message. It took 10-15 mins for the machien to shut down. This is the latest version just down downloaded (Build 5519). Why is this problem not fixed? Why has no solution been posted? Why I am seeing this problem on such a simple backup?
Very, very unimpressed.
<Later: Ok have just rebooted and powered down - machine powers down immediately. But can anybody explain what is going on? Why does it take so long to power off after doing a backup? Is it going to do this everytime? Why is there no warning that this is going to happen? Remain unimpressed>

Hello Richard,
Thank you for your message. I will do my best to assist you.
There is a known issue in our software where the machine does not shut down after some time. Our Development team is working on it and I am certain that we will get this resolved very soon.
I will update this thread when I have any news and we also have other users posting about this issue here.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

I installed latest build #6574 and the problem persists. I still got the message "Operations are in progress. Please Wait. The machine will be turned off automatically when the operations are complete." And now i regognized that build #6574 was removed from the download area. What's wrong with it? When will this issue be solved ? This issue is very annyoing and persist for month. Acronis: Please do something!!!

Comment:
1/10/11:
Thank you for writing the above post. It was very comforting to read someone elses' comment about having the same experience I was having. I am an new user of TIH 2011, but am an experienced computer user/consultant. The problem of the "Operations are in progress . . ." message during shutdown seems to have been happening for a long time (years). I believe Acronis owes the user community an explanation, and especially a fix for this. I give Acronis credit for allowing all the negative posts about this problem, but it would be even better to just fix the problem. A start would be to display a message and progress bar saying what is happening during shutdown.
Thanks to everyone who has posted on the problem. I will now go try to play with the validation settings to see if that helps. Meanwhile, please, Acronis, address this problem. Thank you.

Once the backup is made is there anyway to recover it without validation.
I have a BSOD that needs recovery and after the recovery finished I am in my 12th hour of "operations are in progress...." and that is with a SATA 3 SSD drive.
So I can't rebackup til I get this recovery done.

William,
If the backup completed, you can shutdown the computer. Do the restore from the recovery CD. If you don't have the recovery CD, download the bootable ISO from your Acronis account, after you have registered your ATI registration key.

Anton, Yani:
I am a new user of Acronis True Image Home 2012 - I purchased the product earlier this week, and have never used it before.
I encountered the same problem that has been reported above (and discussed at great length in many other threads) - the "Operations are in Progress..." message.
I scheduled my backups to take place at 4:00 AM each day, specified that the backups be validated, and also specified that the machine should shut down when the backup is complete.
Although I don't have very much experience with your application, it appears to me that the latter two of the above specifications (backups should be validated, then, the machine should shut down) are not being carried out.
The whole issue of the computer wanting to do a bunch of work (and posting the "Operations are in Progress..." message) would not present a problem to me if the machine would just do the backup at 4:00AM - while I am asleep in bed - then validate it, then shut down. In other words, it's not going to bother me that it takes an hour or more for the machine to shut down as long as that hour of waiting takes place right after the backup, long before I get out of bed in the morning. But, the three tasks I have specified (backup, validate it, then shut down) are not being carried out.
FYI I have a brand new computer with a brand new factory preload of Windows 7 Professional (64 bit). I'm using build 5545 of Acronis True Image Home 2012 Family Pack.
Regards,
Michael

Hello Acronis Support,
I have the same issue as Michael and this is with the latest download from your 'Try and Buy' link for Acronic True Image 2012. Would really like to buy but the hanging on shutdown is a real problem and one you look to have had for a long time now.
Is there a solution to this issue, why is the application hanging on 'Performing background operation'......
Look forward to your reply.

Hello Jason,
Thank you for your interest in our product!
This issue might be caused by the validation that's still checking the image you've created. As a workaround I would advise you to turn off validation after the backup, it should help.
If it doesn't, or if you don't have a validation scheduled, then we'll need to check the logs. Could you please send us Acronis Info from the problem machine? It might shed the light onto the situation.
Please also note that as far as you're using a trial version you're eligible for free online support via chat or e-mail, we strongly recommend to contact tech.department directly in case of emergency. Just make sure that the trial license you're using is added to your account.
Let us know if you have any additional questions, we will be glad to help you.
Thank you!
