'Bad Blocks' Error during image creation process in Acronis Home Image 2010

Thread needs solution

Hi, I'm trying to create a new partition on my system drive to hold the acronis backup images and get a 'bad blocks' error after the reboot.

Steps:
go to Tools and Utilities > Manage Acronis Secure Zone
Create new 50gb partition on C drive
The process completes successfully and requires reboot.
The system boots in to a dos screen and tries to create the new partition.

The process stops with this error: operation error: unable to create partition with bad blocks.

I followed the steps in this article (http://kb.acronis.com/content/1600)

I downloaded and ran the Acronis Report software. I've attached the report.

I Ran chkdsk /r. The system rebooted and chkdsk did its thing.

I started the process again once windows came back up and still get the bad blocks error during partition creation process in dos.

Your suggestions are appreciated.

Brian

Brian,
Perhaps others can assist with your specific issue. However, the creation of the Secure Zone is not a requirement--it is an option. Be aware that if you have a hard drive failure, all of the contents of the secure zone will be lost so be sure you have other backups stored in another device. Check your windows event viewer/application so see the results of the disk check. It is not unusual to need to run the chkdsk C: /R several times.

An alternative to the secure zone would be just create a normal partition which would be visible and accessible thru normal means and not requiring the use of TI to view its contents. This new partition could be the storage target for some of your backup tasks.

Thank you.

I want to have the partition on the system drive to facilitate image restore in the event of an OS crash. I also back the images up to an external drive so worst case I can restore from there.

I didn't realize that the contents of Secure Zone are not visible without TI. I also tried Acronis Disk Director to create the partition. With DD the partion appears to be created after reboot but it is not there in Windows... so no partition was created (verified in Computer Management)

Thanks for your help!

Does Disk Director has a commit option. Maybe the partition creation was never finalized. In the Secure Zone, it is the program which controls it use.

Did you try checking the disk disk for disk errors again?

It would be good for the OP to post an updated screen capture of the disk management console. If there is some unallocated space, chkdsk from check it.
