Basic Question -- Unclear about ..

Thread needs solution

I've installed the Trial Version of Acronis True Image Home 2010 Online Backup. I've printed and read the User's Guide. I use the Acronis Disk Director and Acronis True Image Home Backup softwares regularly so I'm familiar with the layouts and schemes.

However, there's something I don't understand or have missed with regard to the online backup.

Say I backup an entire hard disk with numerous partitions using on-line backup (as I do to a local USB drive).

I want to back up that disk daily on line.

Does the on line program make a new backup of the ENTIRE disk, including contents of all the partitions, each day (or period selected), or does it back up only those files which have changed since yesterday?

Is there an option to select one or the other? I may have missed it in the instructions.

Backing up an entire disk every day (or period) seems like overkill and would be time consuming.

Jud,

When you set up the task, you can specify the type of backup you want:
- a "full" backup setting will always produce full backups. Everytime, the entire disk is backed up,
- an "incremental" backup setting will produce first a full backup, and then backup only what has changed (an incremental backup) since the last backup (whether full or incremental). It is recommended to do a new full backup after a while, because if any of the incremental backups in a chain gets compromised, all backups after that one are compromised.
- a "differential" backup setting will produce first a full backup, and then will backup everything that has changed since the first full backup (so all changes accumulate in each backup).
