Bootable media start-up parameters

Thread needs solution

I have a notebook that will not boot. I was running Acronis True Image Home 2009 on this notebook and made an image file of the disk. I stored the image file on an external USB hard drive. I would like to install the image file on the hard drive, but can not boot the machine. The image file has all disk sectors that contained information; file encryption was not used; the image file was validated. .

This was to be my first system recovery from an Acronis disk image file. I wiped the notebook's disk clean using Acronis Disk Cleaner. When I tried to boot the computer from a rescue disk the computer would not boot. I used a rescue disk made with ATIH 2009, and I have the rescue disk.

I no longer have Acronis True Image Home 2009 installed since I upgraded to 2011. I made a new rescue CD using 2011 on a computer with similar PATA hard drive. When I inserted the new rescue CD in the notebook the notebook made a faint noise but did not read the CD. I went into BIOS Setup utility and disabled the CD drive. Then pressed the Start button. The screen displayed a successful memory test and recognized the Seagate ST9160821A hard drive. It then displayed the message “operating system not found.” There is no operating system on the hard drive.

I then made a rescue USB flash drive and put it in the USB port and tried to boot the notebook. It read the USB flash drive and said “Starting Acronis Loader” then “Acronis loader fatal error Boot drive partition not found, press enter to try to boot your OS.” In the Acronis User's Guide's section 7.2.1.2 Bookable media startup parameters it says, bootable media startup parameters can be set in order to configure rescue media boot options for comparability. Is there a way to configure an Acronis rescue disk to solve the problem I am having?

You could try to download an ISO from your Acronis account and burn it to a CD.

It is not clear to me why your USB is failing. Is it working the another computer? The recovery medium is independent of the machine that creates it, but at least you could verify the USB disk is valid for a boot.

I put the USB fash drive in a PC running Win 7. When I rebooted the machine Acronis Loader appeared on the screen. Soon after a menu came-up with Acronis True Image Home 2011 (Full Version), System Report, Acronis Disk Director. and Windows 7.

What if the notebook I am trying to start has a corrupt MBR? Are there parameters that can be put into a rescue disk that direct Acronis Loader to use a different location than where the MBR is normally found, and to create a temporay environment from which to boot?/

Yes you can enter some parameters right after the first selection appears and before ATI launches. Hit F11. A pop up windows will let enter some parameters. See further below a list I found on older postings.

All the partition information has been erased the Drive Cleanser.

But you should be able to see the disk anyway.

Did you try with the downloadable ISO as it might have more current drivers?

• acpi=off
Disables ACPI and may help with a particular hardware configuration.

• noapic
Disables APIC (Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller) and may help with a
particular hardware configuration.

• nousb
Disables USB modules loading.

• nousb2
Disables USB 2.0 support. USB 1.1 devices still work with this option. This option
allows using some USB drives in USB 1.1 mode, if they do not work in USB 2.0 mode.

• quiet
This parameter is enabled by default and the startup messages are not displayed.
Deleting it will result in the startup messages being displayed as the Linux kernel is
loaded and the command shell being offered prior to running the very Acronis
program.

• nodma
Disables DMA for all IDE disk drives. Prevents kernel from freezing on some
hardware.

• nofw
Disables FireWire (IEEE1394) support.

• nopcmcia
Disables PCMCIA hardware detection.

• nomouse
Disables mouse support.

• [module name]=off
Disables the module (e.g. sata_sis=off).

• pci=bios
Forces to use PCI BIOS, not access the hardware device directly. For instance, this
parameter may be used if the machine has a non-standard PCI host bridge.

• pci=nobios
Disallows use of PCI BIOS; only direct hardware access methods are allowed For
instance, this parameter may be used if you experience crashes upon boot-up,
probably caused by the BIOS.

• pci=biosirq
Uses PCI BIOS calls to get the interrupt routing table. These calls are known to be
buggy on several machines and they hang the machine when used, but on other
computers it is the only way to get the interrupt routing table. Try this option, if the
kernel is unable to allocate IRQs or discover secondary PCI buses on your
motherboard.

I followed the link to Wildersecurity - I just thought I would try using the Forum on this rather than Acronis Technical Support. I saw nothing new in the articles about how to make and use Acronis Rescue disc.

Made some progress on getting this notebook up snd running. in BIOS Setup I made the internal hard drive the last item in the boot sequence. Then plugged in a USB Flash drive with Acronis loader on it, and continued the boot process. It loaded Acronis menu with Aconis TIH 2011 (Full Version) and Disc Director.

I selected MBR, Primary drive, and formatted the internal drive to NTFS. Now I would like to install an image file I made of the hard drive when I was running Acronis, True Image Home 2009. The file is stored on a USB hard drive. What should I do?

Boot on your recovery media, launch ATI from the disk and start a restore. You should see your USB drive. Be careful that the drive letters that you will see will probably differ from the ones you are used to in Windows. Look at the disk labels and information to make sure you select the right drives as you go through the wizard. Make sure you make the target partition primary, active.

I booted from recovery media, started restore, made sure disk was active, image file on external USB hard drive was copied to internal hasrd drive; removed USB boot media and rebooted system. Windows started to load then the screen turned pale, on the screen in big red letters it said ERROR
Current system is not ASUS model. Why me.

The USB boot media was made using Acronis True Image Home 2011. The image file I would like to restore was made using TIH 2009. It was originally store on a FreeAgent USB hard drive probably copied to USB netbook and copied back to the USB hard drive.

I have a CD marked Acronis 2010 Bootdisk and an image file on the FreeAgent hard drive made using Acronis 2010 that was never moved. What should I do?
