BootMgr is missing
I recently purchased Acronis True Image Home 11 for the purpose of moving my Windows 7 Professional 64 bit system to a larger disk. After the disk clone operation was completed, I get the "BootMgr is missing, press CTL + ALT + DEL". I tried the suggested solution and it does not work:
Bootrec.exe /FixMbr
Bootrec.exe /FixBoot
Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd
I can only boot my system with the original disk in place and then wait for the prompt and select the new disk. If I remove or disable the old disk the system will not boot. This tells me that Acronis TI 11 did not actually clone my entire disk, only part of it. If Acronis knows the answer to this question, then why have you not issued a product update and fixed the shortcomings in the product you are selling? Your product should be able to do what you claim without errors. I should not need to run any fixes from Microsoft or any other third party to make your product perform as advertised.
To make matters worse, I waited for over one week for someone in your tech support group to tell me to try the Microsoft knowledge base article fix posted in the forum. I read the forum and had already tried this solution with no success. Is your support group ever going to help me fix my problem?
One very unhappy Customer.

Colin,
Yes I tried everything I could find on this forum as well as other searches I perfomed.
After two weeks of frustration, I finally found the solution last night. I downloaded EasyBCD and reconfigured the BCD. This fixed it. There must have been some corruption in the BCD that nothing else was touching.
I am still angry with Acronis for producing a product that leaves the system in that state. If you read this forum, this has been going on for over a year now. They need to fix the problem and issue an update.

It has now been almost two weeks since I submitted this to the support group. I received one email last week, and no further communications. It appears to me that they are not interested in fixing this problem.

I have also tried to clone my W7 HD with both Acronis True Image Home 11 and Acronis Disk Director Home only to get the Missing BootMGR message. If Acronis is not being responsible enough to rectify for this problem, then is there anybody out there that has a reliable fix for this problem? Also, I will not be purchasing anymore software for Acronis if a fix for this does not become available SOON!

Gerard,
As I said in post #1, running the W7 repair CD may do the trick for you.

Acronis responded to my request, with another suggestion. However, I had already discovered on my own that I was able to fix the problem using EasyBCD. I repaired the BCD and moved it to the main partition instead of the 100MB System Reserved partition. That seems to work.
The Acronis suggestion was to make an Acronis CD, then disconnect all drives but the clone drive and boot from the Acronis CD to perform the repair. I fixed my problem before I could try this solution, so I do not know if it works.
Acronis needs to incorporate some kind of fix into the main product instead of leaving their customers out of the loop. They claim they will address this issue, but only time will tell.

I will not know until I get a little time to try it. When I do, I'll let everybody know.

Thank you Gene! It worked perfectly. I'm thrilled. You don't know what a relief it is to now say that I truly have a cloned disk that works! I've tried all different cloning programs and they all fall flat on there A..s when it comes to being able to clone a disk. I can now feel comfortable in knowing that if my HD goes south on me, I have a replacement that is ready to go.

Glad I could help in passing along something that is not "in the manual"
Cheers

I also am having a similar issue using the TI 2010 edition with the Plus Pack installed. I create a full disk image on a Dell Studio 540 and try to install that on a Dell Vostro 230 in order to switch to a new machine. The old machine will be retired. I have been getting the BootMGR is missing error and once when I finally got rid of it, the Windows 7 64 bit install would reboot every time it got to the screen where this little colored balls appear during boot. I considered moving to 2011, but without knowing that would fix this I am not willing to pay for upgrading to 2011 with the 2011 plus pack. The plus pack claims it should move an image to dissimilar hardware, but this is not working for me. What can I do that won't take more time than just reinstalling the OS and all my apps? I am not having any success using True Image for anything that involves moving images to other machines, even though it works well for restoring to the same machine!

Unfortunately, I don't think I can help you with your particular situation. Maybe someone else will see your posting and be able to help you.

Hi there,
I can also confirm that using the Windows 7 repair disc fixed this problem for me...though I only had to run it twice.
Sucks that this was even a problem in the first place. Given the issues I've had with both TI and Disk Director....gone off Acronis big time...certainly not going to upgrade these products...no matter how many fabulous discounts they keep sending my way!
