Bought Crucial SSD install kit - comes with Acronis 2014 - doesn't work

Thread needs solution

Hi

I bought a Trion 100 SSD (480GB), and a Crucial SSD install kit - to clone across my current HDD to the New Drive to replace the 160GB SSD in my Toshiba Portege, but it didn't work - 4 days of it copying, then a blank partition at the end of it.

Not happy!

Less happy that they want another $90 to upgrade software.

Feeling like I've been conned!

Can anyone help with useful advice?   I need to know if this can work, and how to do it - with exact instructions.  Have tried twice now, with failure both times - lost a week.   About to give up on it.

Ted,

ATI 2014 is fully capable of performing the clone.

A clone of a 160GB drive should take a couple of hours, max.

The following link describes the recommended process for cloning laptops:

You should definitely read the article...but here's the steps.

Create rescue media.  Confirm you can boot from rescue media.  Once confirmed:

Remove old drive, install new drive.

Connect old drive using USB adapter.

Boot using rescue media.

Perform the clone.  Once complete, remove USB drive.

Set BIOS to boot from SDD...boot.

Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!!!!!

Took less than an hour to complete, even with my reading time.

Now looking at 240GB free, rather than 6GB free. (plus another 80GB unallocated for other uses)

Made a bootable DVD, ran that to free up the one USB3 port on this machine, swapped the new drive into the machine, and connected the old one to the USB caable, and it was all done in minutes, rather than two lots of 3 days lost by just doing what seemed logical on the interface.

Ted,

Congrats!  I love a happy ending.
