Build: 6055 - Does the Option Validate really validate?

Thread needs solution

Windows 8.1 Update with all updates

After installing the new german build 6055 of ATI I tested the Validate Option.

I was extremely puzzled when I realized that a 51 GB big backup on a normal disk was validated in less than 15 sec!

To demonstrate the behaviour I took a screenshot just before I clicked "Validieren" (validate_start.png) and another screenshot after the finish message "Backup ist gültig." (validate_stop.png). Including the screenshot handling the time difference on the clock is 17 sec!

On the stop-screenshot there a check mark with the "validated" backup. After stopping ATI and starting it again the check mark vanished (validate_newstart).

I think the validate option lies. What do you think?

(!) After using Cleanup Utility, it is strongly recommended not to reboot the machine, go to Start -> Run -> regedit, and verify that there are no snapman*, fltsrv, tdrpman*, vidsflt*, timounter strings in the following keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} -> UpperFilters and LowerFilters
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} -> UpperFilters and LowerFilters

Followed_the_Recommendations___Same_Result

Followed the in #1 and in https://kb.acronis.com/content/48668 recommended procedure:

- Startup Recovery Manager was not configured
- Acronis Secure Zone was not configured
- deinstallation of Build 6055
- reboot
- ran Cleanup Utility from https://kb.acronis.com/content/48668
!!! Explorer was very, very slow - unable to work with -> logoff necessary
- controlled upper and lower filters in the registry -> clean
- chkdsk on system partition -> clean
- reboot
- for the installation unnecessary volumes dismounted
- reboot
- fresh install of Build 6055
- tried to validate a backup
>>>Result: Same as reported in #1 with another backup file (see attachments)
- chkdsk on data partition -> clean

What to try next? Acronis it is your turn!

Hallo AcroBS

-------------------------------------------------

Hello AcroBS

Have you checked all "UpperFilters" or only the two Keys? I am sure, you will find the "fltsrv" in a UpperFilters Key (if ATI 2015 Build 5539 was prior installed, before updating)

One_more_try:

To be very certain not to oversee something I deinstalled and reinstalled build 6055:

After deinstallation and running the Cleanup Utility I controlled the whole registry with Nirsofts Regscanner and the system volume with the File Explorer from an adminstrative account: No appearance of the in https://kb.acronis.com/content/48668 mentioned items!

I controlled the services with msconfig: No Acronis services were listed.

After installation absolutely NO changes compared with my previous installation!

One additional observation: After clicking "Verify" the program window turns black for a short time. Maybe there was somewhere an error. A log option could bring more light. Is there one?

What happens if you validate via the recovery media?

Did_you_find_the_standalone_validate_option_with_recovery_iso?

Hallo Colin,

in earlier version there was an option and the advice to verfiy an backup before you recover a volume. But with build 6055 I did not find such an option. You can only validate directly after a backup when you tick the specific backup option. But standalone - an equivalent to windows version - I was unable to locate.

Wolf

Seems to work for me.
My ~400GB disc image backup is validating and looks like it will take an 60 to 90 minutes to complete.
This is on an Intel i5 box with 2TB SATA 2 internal disc as the backup destination.
Using build 6055.
My screens look like those of AcroBS (but in English) and nothing like the images posted by G. Uphoff.

@mark,

G.Uphoff's screenshots are of the TI 2015 Linux recovery environment, AcrosBS's screenshots are from TI 2015 in Windows.
