Build 6131

Thread needs solution

On 11/11/11, I saw and downloaded ATIH build 6131, but it is now gone, and we are back to build 5545.
Does anyone know why 6131 was removed?
Should I avoid running that build?
Are there any issues that I should be concerned about?

Hello Acronis Team.

Could we get an explanation about this?

Thank you.

Build 6131 may have been made available by mistake. If you have it and are not suffering any problems, then keep it until the official update is released which may or may not be 6131.

I imagine they removed it because either it hadn't finished being tested, or the update when it comes will be a newer build than that.

6131 seems to be back.

Yes it is. But note that some "known issues" remain. Here are the posted Release Notes for Acronis True Image Home 2012 Update 1 (Build #6131 November 15, 2011 ) that lists both resolved and acknowledged remaining issues:

List of fixed issues

  • Acronis True Image Home 2012 doesn't detect hard disk drives after installing it over a previous Acronis True Image Home version
  • Acronis True Image Home 2012 may fail to create Acronis Rescue Media with the error "Cannot load required components: ti_boot.so"
  • Backup to a Synology NAS fails with the error "Access is denied"
  • Hard drives sometimes are not detected under Windows after Acronis True Image Home 2012 installation
  • Acronis True Image Home 2012 displays the error message "Error while writing PEM file" when attempting to log into Acronis account
  • Data located in the subfolders of a synchronized folder may disappear after synchronizing it with Acronis Online Storage
  • Installation fails with rollback and "error CustomAction _USRCUSTACT_MsiCustomActionInstall_VddApi returned actual error code 1603"
  • Nothing happens if a user clicks "Connect" for a NAS folder in the Sync creation wizard
  • Upgrade from Acronis True Image Home 2011 to Acronis True Image Home 2012 fails with the "Installation has failed. The value can't be found." error message
  • A new sync does not appear after clicking Create New Sync
  • Backup to a QNAP NAS fails with the "access denied" error message, NAS subfolders can't be browsed
  • GUI hangs for 1 minute during program start if a mapped share is unavailable
  • The "configure disk backup process" window in multiple partitions selection view should contain 5-6 partitions by default (if there are many partitions in the system)
  • An unlettered storage device is always selected as a source when editing the single partition backup settings
  • The Online backup created by Acronis True Image Home 2011 isn't listed in the Recover menu of Acronis True Image Home 2012 after upgrade
  • The error "Failed to update snapman driver" appears when trying to upgrade Acronis True Image Home 10 (10.0.0.4942) to Acronis True Image Home 2012
  • Rollback during upgrade of Acronis True Image Home 2011 to Acronis True Image Home 2012
  • The "recover" function cannot browse xlsx\txt\docx files after the files have been edited
  • The error "Failed to open (initialize) the computer" may appear during the Clone operation
  • Activation works incorrectly after upgrading Acronis True Image Home 2012 from the trial version to the full one
  • Acronis True Image Home 2012 is seen as de-activated 30 days after activation
  • Acronis True Image Home 2012 fails to restore deep level files by drag and drop
  • Acronis True Image Home 2012 creates long backup names after changing a USB storage device, and does not delete previous backup versions
  • On an expanded backup plate the "backup is valid" banner is not seen after validation.

List of known issues

  • Incremental backups created by Acronis True Image Home 2012 when Microsoft Outlook is open differ in size from the same backups created when Microsoft Outlook is closed
  • The disk recovery options saved as default are not kept after reboot
  • Queued backup tasks run in a random order and not in the order in which they were queued
  • Acronis True Image Home 2012 is unable to browse for the files located at Western Digital MyBook World Edition. You need to use a full UNC path to get access to them.
  • Sometimes installation may fail with the error "CustomAction _USRCUSTACT_MsiSyncAgentServiceInstall_SyncAgent returned actual error code 1603". In this case, please ask the Support team for the clean-up tool and install the application for "the current user only".
  • During restore, the boot media fails to pass through the credentials entry window on an UnRAID device running v4.5.6 Pro, LimeTech RB1200
  • Acronis True Image Home 2012 may prevent a USB flash drive from being properly detected under Windows. A fix will be available soon.
  • The "Cleanup by number of versions" option does not work for Acronis Online Backup.
  • A new "SyncMe" sync is created after each update or reinstall of Acronis True Image Home 2012.
  • Acronis True Image Home 2012 may prevent USB cards from being properly read by Windows through card readers. If this occurs, please reconnect the card reader with the already installed card.
  • Syncagentsrv.exe may crash if Acronis True Image Home 2012 is removed after updating to build 6131. However, the removal will complete successfully.
  • Live Update does not work for Windows Home Server 2003. To install fresh updates, users need to download and install them manually.

For those who, like myself, have reached the conclusion that it is wise to completely remove all previous versions before updating any Acronis product, the Acronis True Image Home 2012 Cleanup Utility (posted Sep 5, 2011) can be downloaded at http://kb.acronis.com/content/24545

GOOD LUCK, EVERYBODY!

Well I have downloaded all the bits, so now for the backup followed by the install. But this time I am going to checkout the scheduler and what it adds by starting from scratch and using schedmgr_static.exe to ensure that ALL tasks are deleted. I am also going to uninstall ALL Acronis products before I start the install so I can see exactly what does what. I think this is worth the effort just to ensure I have a clean (ish) starting point.

I know I have to re-create all the task but that is a small problem compared to previous version hangovers.

Just FYI I looked at the scheduler and there were so many c**p tasks in there it was causing issues. After I tidied up things seemed to work a bit better. One task that was there was "Shutdown" this is created when you check the shutdown when task complete box when doing a backup it seems to get added but never deleted.

When I started ATIH today it told me to upgrade so I did, and now I have build 6131. But every time I start it tells me there a is new version of Acronis Sync Agent ready for installation. If I install that it still tells me there is a new version. I have downloaded and installed the full version and rebooted but the problem still exists, every time it tells me there is a new version.

Hallo,

bei mir verhält sich das Programm genauso. Es wird ständig auf ein Update zum Anhenten angeboten. Den habe ich nun schon dreimal erneuert. Es scheint ein Bug zu sein.

@Jan: Have you tried downloading the build 6131 installer package from your account source, running it (run as Administrator) and selecting the Repair option?

If that fails to fix the problem, I can only suggest a "cleanup" and fresh installation of the new build. I don't trust the Acronis updating process at all. Inter alia, they seem to have some serious residual issues with both registry (REG_MULTI_SZ) modifications and filter services driver handling. Fresh installs are a real PITA, but seemed to work okay for me -- so far, at least. Still re-checking the activation.

I have the same issue as Jan.

Tried repair and it still does it. I don't use the Online Backup, which I assume the Sync Agent is for?
Would it be safe to just ignore it in my case then?

The Acronis SyncAgent is a service that can be disabled in the Windows Management Interface (WMI) but whether disabling that service will fully resolve the TIH messages about available updates in the current circumstances I can't answer. There's no harm in trying that if you don't need it. You can also disable the auto-update option under the TIH application's main configuration.

I have the same problem. I upgraded to build 6131 (I downloaded the full build from the Acronis support site) and I confirmed that build 6131 is installed. Nonetheless, it keep reporting continuously that there is a newer version available.

Same problem, too!
What a mess! I made a backup of AT build 5545 settings before I wiped it of - update installation went wrong - but if I try to import the settings nothing happens. Now I tried to manually mount my Nonstop-Backup, but every time I start to search for backups AT 2012 build 6131 crashes!
What a fool am I, to update befor looking to the forum.

So, I give you the advice, don't update the Version before a clean version is out!
I think we all are beta-tester! But than Acronis 2012 is to expensive and we all should get money back!
Very sad!
Al

After installing Build 6131, the version of snapapi remains at build 640.
On Acronis website there is still snapapi build 651 available.
Is it recommended to install the more recent build 651 manually or not ?

Same thing here. I had a terrible time installing this new version in the first place. I had #5454 installed with the new Sync Service update and the 2 driver updates to support my flash drive. I got many errors trying to install through the program so I downloaded the standalone installer. Still no luck. I uninstalled #5454 and reinstalled the new version from scratch and now EVERY time I run it, it tells me there is a new sync Service update even if I do it it tells me every time I run it now.

I am going to do a repair install and if that does not work I will uninstall from the CP and run the cleanup tool. I will then manually check for leftover files, folders and reg entries.

Outside of that the ball is in Acronis's hands.

Acronis are you hearing this?

Thanks!

I have the same issue regarding the sync update availability every time I open TIH. I finally unchecked the box so that it doesn't check for upgrades automatically

I couldn't install; kept telling me that I still had Acronis products installed...I guess upgrading is not an option with TIH? I used Revo Uninstaller Pro to uninstall TIH, rebooted, then the new install of 6131 worked

@David: Basically, the installation issues that you and other people are seeing in many cases are the various circumstantial consequences of Acronis' attempts to use Windows Installer (MSI) packages for managing registry/driver dependencies that the available MSI methods just don't always handle very well, especially where multiple REG_MULTI_SZ device class filter items are involved.

Depending on prior installations/updates/uninstallations and their versioning "leftovers", among other things, those circumstances may or may not apply in any given case. Where they do, however, the only answer is a clean new install as you have discovered. And even the currently available Acronis cleanup packages may sometimes miss a few elements. See http://forum.acronis.com/forum/26666 for one example.

Temporarily, those who are still getting 'updates available' messages could see what happens if they disable auto updates.

OK, did a complete repair and program still took 5 minutes to load and told me AGAIN there was a Sync Service update. I extracted the files from the Sync Update file Acronis downloaded and checked the file dates and hashes and it did in fact update the files to the new ones but it still says there is a new update.

I uninstalled and ran the ATIH 2012 cleaner and rebooted to a BSOD!!! I had to pull out the Acronis emergency disc and restore last nights image, good thing I did it huh?

Well I am going to wait to update to the new release, Build #6131, until we hear from tech support on this. Now sure if I should open an official ticket on this. What do you think?

For now I have the last build, 5545 I think it was? It is working fine now. I have the new Sync Service installed plus 2 hew hot fixes support pointed me to in their KB to fix an issue with support for my Patriot Flash Drive so I can wait this one out.

Please keep me posted!!!

As this seems to be something releated to auto update, what happens if those affected download the installer from their account and install from there?

The auto download and install saves the MSI installer and unpacked temp files in the temp folder, and I believe makes a entry in registry. It doesn't delete the temp files on exit in the temp directory, so maybe the registry entry is flagging that an installer exists and when the temp folder is checked the file doesn't match what it thinks it should so asks for a new download. Those who download the exe file itself rather than the MSI may have a different experience. I'll be manually downloading it tonight when I get home and try out my theory.

I tried the manual download, no luck. Let me know how you do.

I also am plagued by notifications that a new version of the sync agent is read to install.

I think the problem could be down to the fact the sync agent build is 6132 where as the main TI executable is 6131. Maybe the program is hardwired to look for the same build version, is looking at the server and is seeing 6132, not bothering to check what version is installed and gets confused?

Just a theory...

I disabled non-stop backup service in WMI; also SyncAgent and Scheduler 2 service. The services stopped, but I could backup but not validate backups. So I disabled the non-stop backup service only. Now I can backup and restore. When I try to install the new update (6131) it says, "the version you are trying to install is the latest." I wonder whether I should enable non-stop backup service and try again, or just remove the old version and reinstall 6131 from scratch. I have never had so many problems with Acronis before.

What does your build report itself as under the Help\About menu?

When I get into help\about menu it says build 5545. When I get into Acronis from within Windows a display says "new version is available."

Run the b5545 installer again and select repair install.

Download the 6131 build directly from your account and run that installer with Admin permissions by right clicking on the installer file and selecting 'Run as Admin'.

Colin: You're probably already aware, but in case you haven't actually looked inside the .exe file, it's an executable container for .msi Windows installer package.

I am, but there is enough difference between using the MSI file directly and the Acronis installer front end during installs. Correction with 2011 and prior there was, sometimes the Acronis front end installer couldn't install the program due to registry entries that the MSI installer by itself couldn't care less about.

Probably due to the checking of serial number methods.

However in another thread someone has already reported they downloaded the exe file and have the same problem. So that's that idea out the window.

I have tried a 5545 repair and installing 6131 by right clicking run as administrator. Still says I have the most updated version available. At this point, since the 5545 version is doing everything I want it to, I am tempted to leave it alone. I have not attempted cloning yet.

I finally got it to work. The display did state that the version I was trying to install was the latest. The icon above that stated "install" and when I clicked on it the install ran. Now I am getting the message that the synchonization has an update! Also getting a message that a newer version of Acronis is available.

Going against common Acronis wisdom, I installed the update in place. As usual, I took the precaution to shutdown my security software before installing the software.

The update was a breeze.

I ran system cleanup within Acronis Windows. Now I am no longer getting messages that SyncAgent or Acronis needs updates. A very simple solution. It must be erasing some files that are causing this problem.

Five minutes after posting this and the problem has returned. Unfortunately it is still asking me for updates.

Kenneth,

Temporarily disable the auto update feature, this will at least stop the annoyance.

I now think the cause is that Acronis have not updated the update number on their Update Server.

Hello Everyone,

We are aware of the issue and will get it fixed in 15 minutes. The syncagent you receive is exactly the same provided with the build 6131. Please just ignore that message till we disable it on the update server.

I'm very sorry for that issue.

The issue is fixed, please accept my apologizes for the inconvenience.

Once again, if you have accepted installation of that update, please don't worry, it does not change anything to your configuration or installation.

Are both Live Update and installer fixed now? When you change something isn't it customary to change the version or add an "a" or something so people know it isn't the same defective installer? I'm not being snarky, this is a serious question. :)

OK. Since I did a FULL system backup last night AND have my emergency boot disk ready I will try the auto update right now. I will post my findings.

Ok, no go. Same as the first time I tried to auto update. Remember that I have Build #5545 installed with the new sync agent installed and the following driver updates which fixed my incompatability issue with my flash drive:

http://kb.acronis.com/content/26062

I don't know if maybe that's why the install crashes but now I am going to restore, uninstall all of the Acronis stuff and try to install the file from my account online. I will post again after.

Keep in mind when looking at the screenshot I am posting that I installed everything from the same account that has admin rights.

OH BOY! Bad news. I uninstalled ATHI completely and installed build #6131 from the new build from my Acronis download page. All went well but when I started the program the flash drive incompatibility issue was back. I took sometimes over 5 minutes to load the program. With version #5545 these drivers fixed the flash drive issue: http://kb.acronis.com/content/26062

So I did the next logical thing. Installed those new drivers. They installed fine but I rebooted to a BSOD as show in the attachment.

So I am stuck with #5545 for now until they fix the new drivers for build #6131 I guess. Unless anyone can think of anything else I can do. I will scan the KB for ideas.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hello John and Joe,

Fix for the update do not require to change the installer you have, it is ok. There is a not required component was uploaded to the Update server, so we have removed it and now you do not receive prompts for update if you have build 6131.

As for the USB devices issue, we will get published new SnapApi installer soon(will try this week, but probably the next week only).

Hi,

Thanks Ed B for pointing out the "Known Issue" of the release of build #6131. And that is "Acronis True Image Home 2012 may prevent a USB flash drive from being properly detected under Windows. A fix will be available soon." as noted in http://kb.acronis.com/content/26062. However the drivers in this KB article are not compatible with build #6131 so do not use them if you update.

We will wait for the: "A fix will be available soon." I will post it here when it is released.

Thanks,

@ Roman Alyoshkin

Thank you VERY much!!!

Fixed issues:
- Acronis True Image Home 2012 doesn't detect hard disk drives after installing it over a previous Acronis True Image Home version
- Hard drives sometimes are not detected under Windows after Acronis True Image Home 2012 installation

Dear Richard,

I have 6131 installed and the above two "fixed" issues still haunt me. I still have no access to USB storage devices -- they neither show up in Windows Explorer nor in Disk Management. I called Acronis and the tech suggested I install the latest version of SnapAPI (version 640), which I did. After installing SnapAPI, ATIH 2012-6131 failed to launch at all. So I did a System Restore to before I installed the SnapAPI, and now at least ATIH 2012 does launch again, and it does allow me to see an eSata port, but not the USB ports.

It appears that the problems are not fixed. Probably for us there is still some junk in the registry which even the Clean-up Utility is not purging. So I am still stuck, and very unhappy about it.

Dennis,

Did you just install Snapman 640 or did you install vds 61 as well? If you didn't the two might be required together.

Dennis Streveler wrote:

That's an acknowledged "known issue" that is not fixed in build 6131 in all cases. The residual "known issues" list said that a more complete fix will soon be available, but I wouldn't recommend holding your breath in the meantime.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for your help. No, I installed only SnapAPI 640 as instructed by Acronis support chat line. I did not install vds. Perhaps I will try it. Thanks for your suggestion.

I was told by a project manager that they are working on new drivers for build #6131 for this issue. I am running #5545 till then. Should be a week or so they say.

Just be patient.

I do not want to use SYNC. On start up I get a delay until Microsoft Security Essentials turns ON. Event Viewer indicates the error is Acronis Sync Agent Service "HANGS" on start. Is thee I fix for this?

Sync Agent and Nonstop Back-up have been disabled. This does the trick.
