"Calculating time remaining" for a day so far
After extensive searching of this forum, I have seen many reports of the "Calculating time remaining..." phenomenon, whereby Acronis True Image sits there twiddling its thumbs and going nowhere.
I have not found any reference to this in ATI 2015, but that is just what I see. I started a backup first thing this morning and 8 hours later it is still in calculating mode.
Is this yet another of those issues – like the failure to shut down gracefully – that Acronis has not bothered to fix in its pursuit of ever new shiny interfaces for the same old stuff under the surface? Or is there a solution for this clearly bonkers behaviour?
The damn thing won't even stop when I tell it to. It persists in "Calculating time remaining..."
Time to install the copy the of EaseUS software I bought?

Same problem here. In 30 days or so I think I've done about 3 successful backups.

I believe I have found a fix, or at least a workaround. The issue seems to occur because Acronis has an issue with the destination, possibly not enough space. Even if more space is made available, possibly be removing the current backup job and deleting all of the old backups and then recreating the job, Acronis still fails to recognize the added space.
So here is what worked for me.
1) Close the Acronis user interface if you have it open.
2) Start task manager.
3) Stop all running tasks that start with the word "Acronis". This allows you to do a clean and quick restart.
4) Go to the startup tab and change the status of all Acronis startup items to disabled.
5) Restart the computer.
6) Manually start Acronis by clicking on the icon.
7) Delete the current backup job and all associated files.
8) Exit Acronis.
9) Start task manager and stop all Acronis related processes.
10) Restart the computer.
11) Manually start Acronis again.
12. Create a new backup job but be certain it's pointed to a different destination.
13) Verify that the new job runs properly.
14) Assuming 13 is successful, recreate the original backup job and verify that it runs successfully.
15) You can now delete the backup job from step 12 if you wish.
16) Start task manager and enable all Acronis related startup items.

Thanks Bill .... your workaround highlights the deficiencies in Acronis backup. None of us should have to implement a workaround to make the product work to meet our requirements ..... and all of us have immediate backup requirements right ? Perhaps we have not understood Acronis product offering well enough, and maybe its only me. Yet Acronis can only initiate backup after 8+ hours of the request and that is my experience as well ? Personally I am with Michael and I will replace Acronis as it does not provide me with the immediacy of need and results to backup what I need and NOW. The calculating time issue is crippling the assurance that I need to have my mission critical data backed up within one hour of request initiation. If Acronis is even interested they may care to respond to this issue of product and Brand credibility ..... and if the product is working as designed, so be it, I will move on .......

I had this same problem (ATI 2016) and this post fixed it for me: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/100320#comment-316587
After I disabled the Volume Shadow Copy service then the backup completed successfully
